CV16 & More Triggers, Working together - subpopular - 07-12-2022 Im using the NS with CV16 and More Triggers with an Assimil8or. The A8 has 8 channels, and the NS gives me 16 triggers. However, the A8 allows for 'zones' where you can trigger a different sample on a single channel using CV. Im trying to figure out a good workflow that allows me to utilize the drum-matrix view while also controlling cv16. Ive not been able to figure out a comfortable way to bring all this together with the expanders. Question: Rather than only use 8 triggers of More Trigger and have to modulate CV on another track to select the sample zone on the A8 (requires two tracks playing together in sync, and CV is limited to six outs per track), how might one utilize all 16 triggers, but associate a trigger column with a preset voltage that would be output from a given CV output when that column plays a trigger? For example, say trigger 8 is triggering a channel on the A8 with a closed hi-sample. The channel is also set up with zones, so a CV on that channel control which sample plays. Lets say closed hi-hat below 0v and an open hi-hat above 0v. The only way to select the zone that plays from the 8th trigger column (as far as I can tell) is to: 1. use FX to control a local cv or mod out (not ideal as those are probably in use and there arent enough anyway) 2. use a second track with CV16 with a pattern playing in parallel (still limited to 6 columns, but we may need up to 8) Is is possible to instead use trigger 9 on the same channel on the A8, but have a preset voltage be output at the same time from CV16? So trigger 8 and 9 goes to our hi-hat channel, but each comes with a CV as well from CV16. It would be awesome if it could be done in a way that didnt require two tracks... Its not limited to just the A8 and zones - what about velocity/volume, or any other CV modulation associated with a particular trigger on a particular trigger column. The only way I see is to use multiple tracks. Thats not a bad thing as its allows for some interesting possibilities by 'decoupling' your trigger events from your modulation. However, in my case, or for programming intricate drums/samples, that modulation does need to be tightly coupled to the trigger events. I know you can control the triggers from CV16 tracks with FX, but thats a bit more cumbersome, as the drum matrix is definitely preferable. Even using the trigger modulator on CV16 instead still leaves you with 6 columns, and youd still need another cv16 track for trigger-speciifc CV. One other possibility/question: Is there any way (or plans) to control CV16 outputs from a More Trigger track? Seems you can only do the reverse (triggers from CV16). This would be slightly better, but still - youd be using 8 triggers to try and control more than 8 samples. Im new to all of these modules and loving them all so far - just trying to figure out an efficient workflow and learn the NS! With FX (namely CV A...CV H) you can address more/other outs. Secondly you can use the LFOs and route them to other outs. Again FX is your friend here. The only restriction is that you are limited to 3 FX per step which limits you to up to 9 independent(!) melody lines per CV16 track [with 8 tracks that gives you up to 72(!!!) independent melody lines]. In my experience this is still plenty for all sorts of modulation. Regarding the second part of your question: I'm not aware of a way to use a trigger to output a given CV from inside the NerdSEQ. You could always set up an array of switches outside (e.g. some A-150-8) that you trigger. But that also requires a bunch of voltage sources (e.g. faderbanks). Nothing wrong with being new...we all have been at one time ![]() Kind regards, Michael RE: CV16 & More Triggers, Working together - subpopular - 07-13-2022 Thanks for the thoughtful response! Seems like there are several approaches to play with. I actually just ordered an A-150-8 for this use case (already have some faders/offset sources). I don't mind the extra modules (for me, more complicated is better/more fun), especially since the NS has eliminated the need for like half my existing rack! |
