Choosing available values for Trigger/FX columns - vidret - 10-02-2022
This suggestion mostly concerns the trigger column, but is equally applicable to the FX column.
Since there are so many trigger alternatives, some of which double as personal approaches to the same idea. For instance, I always use ticks instead of ms trigs, etc. This means getting to my fav trig values is a relatively convoluted experience scrolling up/down/left/right - there's so many values! I still don't have it down after a year.
The one that has cemented itself is all the way down is gate off, all the way up is gate on - therefore they get a lot of use.
Everything else is "somewhere in the middle".
How about a setting (in the settings menu) to remove some values from the trigger column so there are less things to scroll through?
The values could still be found by pressing "OK" to enter the full list, like the FX column works right now.
Same idea goes for the FX menu! But I personally think the trigger column is more demanding.
For me this would heavily increase exploration, as I could focus on certain parts and finding them would be much faster and it would decrease mental load.

Hmm. For this to be useful we'd need a UI to make it customizable because I'm pretty sure everybody would have differing preferences regarding the list of directly available options.
I'm not against improving usability but in this particular case I have a lot of other/functional wishes, that I'd wish to see dealt with first. Especially since once you've "found" the trigger you are looking for for the first time, subsequent searches (or more precisely inputs in the grid) already have you in the correct range/region of the selectable values. The long and possibly somewhat tedious search through the list basically only happens once initially.

I find that I only use one kind of value because I can't be bothered to do the search again (and maybe search back for the original value).
I'm suggesting ALL values be able to be turned on or off, that way there's no presupposition about what adjustments work the best for everyone.
Everything in the pattern screen remains exactly the same, but an added list in the settings menu containing checkboxes is all that's necessary.
