quantising to a scale - kattefjaes - 03-12-2023

I've been trying to enlighten myself with the manual, but this is making my face hurt. It's possible that I'm better off asking here, so here goes nothing.. Cool

OK, quantisation.. is there a way to non-destructively quantise notes in a pattern to a scale as they're played? It looks like if I manually set up all the allowed notes in a scale in a table and did something with transpose, it might do it.. but that feels like the wrong approach because it's incredibly fiddly. What am I missing?

Is it possible to select a scale and have Nerdseq quantise to that on playback? On record? Does anyone know of good tutorials for this, as searching for "quantise" or "quantize" in the manual isn't leaving me any the wiser. I'm used to being able to select a scale/key for a pattern/track and for notes to be conformed to it- which is really handy for not just lazily staying in key, but manufacturing variation easily.

I'm fairly sure that all of this will be possible as Nerdseq is full of chocolatey goodness, but I just haven't worked it out yet. Please be gentle!

Search for quantizing or scale in the forum ;-)

Below the allowed notes you can select different allowed note presets. Press OK to insert them.

That’s what is in there for now and for more information check the threads about it.

And Page 69 in the manual. You don’t fill anything in transpose. Speed to 1 for the best results.

Thanks! I have been staring tiredly at the manual without getting anywhere, it just tends to become a haze after a while. I'm clearly bad at parsing it. I'm still secretly hoping someone has a cheat sheet with commands for modular tracks, sample tracks etc. too, as I struggle hard maintaining focus when I need to dig commands out of the manual- I'd love it if there were some quick reference appendices. Either way, I really appreciate the hints here.

I'll see if the start of a breadcrumb trail makes me any the wiser. I guess if I can't navigate through it, I can dig out a launchpad to use as a MIDI keyboard, as that has scale modes too Smile

(Also, tables are amazing for doing warbly chiptone arpeggios, I discovered on the way. That's so much fun, it should be illegal.)
