midi pattern : tie midi notes (legato) - Martineh - 10-28-2024

Hello Thomas and everyone,

I've been a happy owner of the NerdSeq for a couple of months, sorry in advance if this is a noob question, I couldn't found any information in the manual.

While sequencing a monophonic synth with midi from the Nerdseq, I'm trying to achieve legato (changing the pitch of the note without retriggering the filter enveloppe, and allowing the synth to add glide on tied notes only).

Is it possibile somehow to tie midi notes in a midi track pattern ?

In addition, would it be possible to shorten the duration of a midi note inside a step?
The same way that, on modular track patterns, we can set the gate length per step & let the gate ON for consecutives steps.

Best,

Martin

You tie notes (if your mono synths allows that) in the current version by using 2 columns. You set the new note on the other column and on the original column you add a note off on the next step. Because in Midi to tie a note it means the new note on before the last note off.
Like this:
Code:
C-4 7F   --- --   --- --   --- --   First Noteon
--- --   D-5 7F   --- --   --- --   2nd Note on before first note off
[ ] 7F   --- --   --- --   --- --   1st note off again to release that 'key'
...      [ ] 7F   --- --   --- --   2nd note off on any other step on demand

Anyways, for the upcoming version there is a special tie/slide function which makes everything possible from only one column.

As for shorter Midi notes you use the KILL FX command (just like the option in modular tracks)   (Manual Page 52)

Awesome. I didn't think about using two columns to achieve that.
Thank you a lot for your super fast answer !!! I can keep going today Smile

Have a nice day

Ties in one column is excellent news! Four independent acid lines per MIDI track!

By the way: Tie notes from only one column is part of the latest firmware:

Code:
C-4 7F  --- --  --- --  --- --  First Noteon
D-5 S9  --- --  --- --  --- --  Tie / slide note to D-5
--- --  --- --  --- --  --- --
[ ] 7F  --- --  --- --  --- -- Note off
