what is "gate" in nerdseq - Johnny - 10-23-2018

We have triggers, i understand. But how i can make gates with nerdseq?
Like trigger is really short pulse which doesnt work with for example ADSR.
now i have to make gates with MOD outs.
Like giving a trigger to it, keeping it open for x amount and then close it.

Am i doing something wrong?

cheers, johnny

The trigger outputs can act as a gate or trigger.
Using for example the trigger column you can either set the gate with FE, toggle the gate with FD and turn the gate off with 00.
You can set-reset the gate with the autogate function using the CV note input and then the note-off.
You can reset the gate using the kill command in the FX columns.
And they are some more tricks for special gating.

The MOD outputs can be also re-used as being gates, but i don't recommend these as the offset is not always defined here (offset switch).

This clarify the thing. Thank you, have missed this in manual...

I was thinking about the FE, FD and 00 setting the other day. Is there a shortcut for getting to these (quickly)? And secondly, wouldn't it make more sense to have the Gate Off 'call' (00) closer to Gate On? At present we have to scroll all the way to FE, and then all the way back to 00 at the opposite end of the numbers - unless, as I said above, there's a shortcut for jumping around.

BTW, maybe you see the Gate On/Off as FE/FD (and not FE/00)?

It definitely would make more sense in usability and I didn't really think about that when I implemented it many years ago.
In a logical way it does make sense as 10,20,30 etc are the triggers in length.
01, 02, 03... delayed ones (and there the 01 is used already, else it would have started with 02 which is maybe also a bit weird somehow).
In the begin it was then just, Gate Off = lowest value, Gate on = highest value and the triggers, retriggers and delayed ones in between.

I will add a shortcut for it which can toggle between Gate on and Gate off which are beside triggers the most used I think.

Great, that would be really useful.

Thanks.
