track modulation, pitch, fx, etc control with gamepad X Y - chuckleone - 04-30-2020 I'm loving the Nerdseq as both a writing and performance tool for modular and one of the reasons I bought it is to use the gamepad with it. I was a little disappointed to see the only functionality the gamepad feature has is emulating the shift and arrow keys but I'm hoping to see more features in the future... While I have several Sega controllers a hand, I also have a set of Atari 2600 controllers which use the same port size and comm protocol, and(while being limited by the number of buttons) they do in fact work with the Nerdseq. What I'd really like to do is to use the Atari's joystick as an XY pad to control things like pitch bend, modulation rates, track fx etc in real time. Not only would this be a lot fun to perform with, it would also be pretty cool for audience members to see during a live set. In general, I'd like to set the functions of each button and the X and Y of the data from the gamepad port to whatever I like. Is this something that can be implemented? RE: track modulation, pitch, fx, etc control with gamepad X Y - XORadmin - 04-30-2020 The Gamepad will get more functionality. But mainly only a free assignable mapping of the nerdseq buttons. Maybe it makes sense to get some XY in/decrements. But in the end it is only digital. Sega and Atari Joysticks are only digital ones. RE: track modulation, pitch, fx, etc control with gamepad X Y - chuckleone - 04-30-2020 That makes sense, I forgot the controllers were digital... With that said, I think it would be interesting to assign buttons or X/Y values to things like fx on/off states, cv/gate/trigger on/off or probability high/low, assign a button to BRK - things that could result in some fun live looping scenarios. Something a little more interactive that doesn't just replicate the nerdseq buttons or do things that require you to look a the screen. If you're doing something that requires you to look at the screen, you might as well just use the buttons on the front panel. Gamepads === fun, let's have some fun to to use options... Just my $0.02 Whatever happens, I look forward to getting more gamepad functionality in the future and cheers to you for even making this feature! RE: track modulation, pitch, fx, etc control with gamepad X Y - zordid - 04-30-2020 There is analog joysticks and paddles for atari (and c64) look for example at the mssiah cart for c64, implements the potx/poty registers of the sid chip (adc) iirc 50kohm pots in the paddle controllers... (however, if the relevant pins on the midi expander aren’t connected to some adc or something, it cant be implemented) RE: track modulation, pitch, fx, etc control with gamepad X Y - Blogic12 - 05-07-2020 I agree more fun and creative ways to use the controller would be great, and more worth actually using it. If it’s just replicating buttons on the Nerdseq, I’d rather just use the Nerdseq.. I also though it would be fun to use the buttons to record gates into sequences |
