Hi.
I have some questions (and ideas) regarding the video expander.
Im routing the envelope from my ADSR into CV input but Im a bit unsure what that translate into as input to the shader. -1->1? 0->1? 0->10? The same question is about CV out routed to a modulator...

And the idea is if it would be possible to add scale/offset directly when you assign a modulator. (I suppose that you can do this via the mappings but that is a bit cumbersome... )

Anyways, VEX is a really nice module

Hi guys,

Newbee here!

I just got the multi IO expander, and really looking forward to using it. I am though, having some start up issues. I am connecting my Akai MPK mini Play to the "host" input - but I am really struggling with the basic setup in terms of getting it setup so that I can record and play the notes from my modules.

Are there any threads that have covered the basic setup when connecting a midi keyboard to the Multi IO? I am trying to read the manual, but at this point I keep getting lost in terms of where to start and how to setup the different parameters.

My dream setup would be to be able to play and record on my Mutable Instruments Plaits in the rack from the Akai MPK Mini Play.

Any help would be great!

A cut sentence from page 68 from the manual: "Destinations for the Drummatrix can be: (...), Midi Notes, (...)".
Is this DrumMatrix (from the TR16) only for the Multi IO expander Midi or is this also possible for the 2HP Midi expander?
If also possible for the 2HP expander, how do I set this up? If no, any plans for it in the future? (I saw a two year old post in which this was being discussed...)

I'd like to make 12 pin extension cords for my midi expander.

a longer version of the standard f/f cable that comes with the midi expander won't suffice as i have my sequencer in a separate case from the midi expander and don't want to remove the modules to connect them before every gig. it needs to be f/m - basically I need the part that the standard cable fits into on the module only as a socket that crimps on to the cable.

I can't seem to find any male 12 pin connectors plugs that will crimp onto the cable online for the life of me. also can't find the cables. it seems most of the stuff is 10, 14 or 16 pin.

does anyone know any european dealers that might have 12 pin stuff as the mouser online store is highly very confusing to me and gives me way too many different things (not exactly sure what to search for) and reichelt and conrad doesn't seem to have them...

Hi there!

My 2hp MIDI expander arrived yesterday and I'm trying to use it to control the Arturia Microfrek, so far unsuccessfully.

So the expander is plugged into the Nerdseq and recognized. I've got Track 8 setup as a MIDI track.

I have the OUT of the expander going into the MIDI IN on the Microfreak using a TRS A->B dongle (Arturia uses TRS B).

I'm sending out from the Nerdseq on MIDI channel 1, and the Microfreak is also set to receive on channel 1.

Question 1) Do I need to connect the "SAMPLE 8" Output to the "IN" jack of the expander, or is MIDI already being sent out through the connection between the expander and the Nerdseq?

Just not sure what I'm doing wrong. Something on the Nerdseq not setup right? Something on the Microfreak? Wrong cables?

Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately, the connections for MIDI in the 'Input/Record' set up menu are not available??

I have connected the module to the 'Pad/MIDI' connector, assigned MIDI to channel 1 in Nerdseq via the 'Track Assign' menu and saved the project. When I go to 'Input/Record', there are no options to activate or assign MIDI Input. I have referred to manual, but I'm lost as to what has happened?

Does version 2.01A disable the older MIDI-OI? The module has been stored in its original packaging in a dry & smoker-free environment so I would be very surprised if it has a fault.
Please advise.

Lets start a new thread now it is out of Beta and available.

Note: All the basic stuff about connecting I2C and information you need is provided in the Installation Guide which came with the Multi-IO and in the currently Preliminary Manual for V2.0.

- You got to enable the Multi-IO in the NerdSEQ Setup Menu. SHIFT+SETUP -> MIDI Expander, change this to Multi-IO. Leave the menu. It might be possible that you got to restart the NerdSEQ once.
- The Front I2C Port and Backside port A are the same and it uses the same Pullup
- Mostly use the 3.3Volt pullup or none if the other gear got already a pullup installed. You can start always without and see if it works reliably or if at all.
- ALWAYS turn all power off before you connect any I2C gear. That applies for the front and backside port
- The 16n and derivates (eg F8R) do scan for any I2C gear 10 seconds after its startup if they are set to leader mode. And if it missed that scan then it won't work. It is possible that it didn't scan the Multi-IO if the I2C port on the Multi was not configured for it. In that case you would configure first and then give the 16n a power cycle. Rule to follow: Use 16n -> NS then the 16n got to be in leader mode, Address to 31hex. If the 16n is set to follower mode then the NerdSEQ got to be set to NS -> 16n 1-16, the address is not important for it.
- No, a 2nd Midi Interface (TRA-A or classic Midi-IO) won't provide an additional Midi Port to the NerdSEQ.
- The encoder is not a push-button
