Nerdseq using Octatrack as sample player?

I have been revisiting the Nerdseq using some recently uploaded tutorial YouTubes. I set up my Analog Rytm to play drum samples. Trying to get the Nerdseq to play samples on the Octatrack via midi notes has been proving to be a bigger challenge. In both cases the Elektron sequencers are obviously not in use. On a basic level I got the Nerdseq to start playback of a sample loop from a midi pattern. Can anyone point me to a video or other guidance for using the Nerd to play samples chromatically? Ultimately I'll be playing the Analog Rytm for percussion, and the Disting EX for poly pads. I'm waiting for my midi module to arrive. I would like to have the option to use the Octatrack for glitch etc from a Nerd midi pattern. I have been using the Octatrack as my end of chain performance mixer/sampler/looper using the EZbot template, but this is the first time I have really delved into controlling it over midi, beyond clock/reset. I presume the main challenge will be slicing, then assigning notes to slices. Not sure if Octa can automate that to any degree. This seems pretty easy on the Analog Rytm since it's just triggers, and buttons are pre-assigned to notes. If anyone feels like I'm barking up the wrong tree trying this on the Octa, let me know. The closest to thing to samplers I have in Eurorack so far is Morphagene and Beads. I may eventually have a Bitbox, but that thing is a crazy power hog.
