Reset all patterns to start on row change
#1
Please can you make this a possibility (or an option in the menu).

I hate to say it but the way I use island at the moment is like Scenes in Ableton live... it would be most excellent if all patterns would be force restarted on a row change.

At the moment if set to different lengths they do not all change at the same time. I would like them to be synced.

I hoped the new SFX clock resync would do it but it doesn't work how I want it to.

Thank you.

I got to be honest that I don't know what you mean by scenes in ableton. Never used it, never will use it.

But i guess you want to set a command on one track to sync all other tracks to this current track? Like all othe pointers, rows etc will be set to the current one?
Like as a result, if you have that command at the first row on a track, all other running tracks will get to that first row.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Ah sorry for assuming... basically all I want is, when you trigger a new row, that all patterns play from their step 0, regardless of whether the previous pattern has finished or not.

eg. I have 1 row containing a pattern which is 15 steps long. When I trigger another row, the change happens on the main clock resync point, and doesn't wait for the 15 step pattern to finish it's 15 steps. So it would change even though it was say halfway though the previous pattern...

Sorry its hard to explain but I can post some screenshots or send a file over if its helpful.

But one would need to decide which track should be leading. All tracks can be triggered independently

I would suggest the track/pattern that has this FX. The command could come in two flavours:
- stop right now and jump/start right away
- wait for the current pattern to end

For the later case when there are several such commands in sequence the last wins (like the STSP function; when it's not implemented as an extension to that anyway).

Kind regards,
Michael

oh you mean like a master track? could we use the main clock resync points for that?

Maybe I don't get it (or its very hard to program) but restarting all patterns on a row change, which syncs to the main clock resync points...

sorry! feeling stupid that I can't explain it properly or I don't understand what you are saying!

No, the master clock should not be touched because then it wouldn't match any other gear that is connected anymore.
But what I mean is that one track must be leading. What is mentioned here, this would be best by a FX command on the first row of a track. At this moment this is leading and all other running tracks would jump/sync to this one leading track same step same pointers at this exactly point.

Nothing for this coming version as this has a somehow deeper impact, but generally possible.

I’m just thinking aloud here, and will honestly admit that I didn’t get in front of the NerdSEQ to play around with these thoughts, but I’m temped to think that this and the track/row start functions of the sequencer screen could be aligned a fair bit in terms of behaviour.

On that screen there are button combo variations that cover switching at pattern end, switching at live quantize point, etc. I imagine that this kind of “leading track” variant could happen on that screen, and that a live quantize variant could happen via FX, and so on.

In that way, most (if perhaps not all) of this kind of syncing could be achieved either on that screen or via FX, and in a fashion consistent with one another.

Sensible? Stupid?
