How to cancel/end a track transpose?
#1
Hi Forum,

I'm playing with transposing patterns and for that I use IN4 and have configured Input 4 Live to TRANSPOSE ALL. That works like a charm.

Now I stop the sequencer and my transposable tracks end up with a transpose still active, e.g. +07. When I now work on some other part of the song I want to get rid of this transpose. Is there a button or menu function I could/should invoke? Or should I create a special pattern that does reset the transpose by specifically transposing by 00 (i.e. sending C-5 to IN4) and that I do invoke manually (by positioning the cursor on this pattern and hitting START)?
[this later technique is what I use currently and it seems to work but I'd like to know if there is another way]

While playing with this I observed the following behaviour:
A fairly low note (working on a bass line), e.g. E-4, transpose active as described above. Then I unplug the transpose CV from IN4, effectively setting it to 0V which changed the track transpose to -3B (or so). This resulted in a very high note (something like A-9 or so) being played. I'd assume the math involved in transposition does some form of "round robin" arithmetics (i.e. it forms a ring). When I go below the lowest note I reenter from above the highest note.

Is that observation correct and is it intended?

I'm currently undecided whether I do like that or not Smile

Kind regards,
Michael

I leave live input turned on for this, and so have to send a new voltage to get back to zero. It’s a little annoying but less annoying than waiting for my system to warm up and turn a transpose of -1 into a transpose of 0. Big Grin

I see. Basically that's what I meant with setting up a special pattern. A bit annoying but then not a biggy since I started to have a set of utility/setup/misc patterns that I use for tuning and now resetting transpose and there certainly will be other uses for that as time goes by Smile

Thank you for confirming that's what currently is the way to go.

Kind regards,
Michael

It’s what I’ve stumbled into, at least. Seems okay given that I often want to have a row of “init” type patterns up at the top anyway for other reasons, but I would certainly be open to learning about additional options.

I create special patterns at the end of a pattern island for similar scenarios. I also (preemptively)create special patterns at row 00 for every track to “preset” everything prior to the row 01 where my song data actually starts. I could probably use a patch but I haven’t gotten that deep into NerdSEQ theory.

With some of the interesting track types not yet supporting patches (or tables, for that matter,) I suspect we’ll be using special patterns for a while.

Perhaps with a bit of luck Thomas will surprise us soon with something and make me wrong. I love being that kind of wrong. Smile
