I looked at the CVM-8 manual again and it appears that it uses address 0x32 (50) only when it is a follower. The default config for the CVM-8 is as a leader, which is what I want, and it is supposed to send I2C to address 0x31, which is the existing address for the Nerdseq. Therefore I think it should work.
I searched around a lot and it appears according to @os from Expert Sleepers that several other people have run into the problem where the CVM-8 doesn’t comunícate at all, apparently due to the standard preset configuration not being loaded when the module was manufactured. https://www.modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=259071 This corresponds to the behavior I noticed today where the transmit LEDs on the CVM-8 never lit up even when I tried using midi.
Therefore it appears I need to try reconfiguring the CVM-8 by connecting my laptop to it using midi, and to do that I need the Expert Sleepers midi breakout module, which I have ordered and should receive within a week. I’ll let you all know how this turns out.
