I share the sentiment about having a little more oversight regarding the FX columns in pattern view.
All I would propose is to indiciate /which/ of the FX columns are in use (contain commands) by having the column numbers at the top show it. Perhaps a colour nuance or bg colour would do the job, if palette permits.
Point being that if you find yourself searching for a fx commands you placed somwehere, you'll know where not to look, at the very least. Just a thought
