Gate sourcing the envelopes is much less "cumbersome" and requires less steps than commanding from the FX - and using FX, unless i'm just missing something or not understanding the other options, there doesn't seem to be a way to use AD-SR mode for the envelope. Presumably because it needs to reference a gate. I am able to now use independent triggers with this mode though.
I still think it would be extremely useful from a multi-sequencing standpoint to de-couple the internal gates from the external trigger outs if possible. Users could freely sequence a 6 drum section AND 8 voices (with AD-SR) with ease.
Please check the manual. There is everything avaliable. Trigger, Set Gate, Reset Gate, Toggle Gate within the fire envelope FX for the envelope gates.
I think decoupling is not a good idea because it would only be a envelope feature which doesn't have anything to do with the sequencing or the rest.
Also it would add a unnessecary complexity to it.
There is actually decoupling with the sample tracks, but there it makes sense since you don't want a waveform to stop on a envelope release and it is feeding back to the audio channel.
PLEASE use the search function if something have been asked or discussed before.
