Reviving an old thread since I'm currently playing with my launchpad and drum/percussion tracks 
While I like the idea that each drum column could define the particular MIDI msg it sends (which if I understand it correctly will limit it to 8 drum columns per channel), I also see that there is a use case for "just" sending (configurable) note numbers for each column (all on the same MIDI channel with 10 being the default) and thus have all 16 columns covered. IMO that would cover the vast majority of usage out there.
As an afterthought:
Drum/Percussion pattern entered on a Trigger16 track should also be routeable through MIDI if both expander are available
