(Though with the 24PPQN with run/stop clocking rather than MIDI) I often use first-row patterns for “setup” of sorts. One bar long, no actual triggers/gates in them, but setting up initial output values (especially on CV 16, but also more generally for things like moving -5V/+5V outputs to 0V,) setting FX that I wish to see carry through other patterns, etc.
Just figured I might suggest it so that you’ve got an option to keep that first row from feeling wasted.
