Quarter note triplets
#7
(11-10-2022, 07:56 PM)mgd Wrote: To do triplets (or quintuplets or septuplets) on non local tracks (aka tracks types w/o tables like Audio, MIDI, CV16 or Trigger16) I see two ways:
- play with the groove, i.e change it from 6 to e.g. 2 for your triplets
- make use of CBPB, especially the 1XX version and the *3 (*5, *7) and to some extend /3 (/5, /7) depending on type of tuplet you wish to create.

!!! Caveat !!!
However you need to be aware that both of these methods have the potential to change the length of your pattern in time in relation to other patterns w/o this manipulation. Special care needs to be applied to prevent other parallel segments to stay in sync.

Some examples:
[changing groove and leaving tempo unchanged]
C-2     8
C-2     8
C-2     8

[changing tempo and leaving groove unchanged]
C-2       CBPB 10D

C-2       CBPB 10D

--
C-2       CBPB 10D
--
--
--
[something else] CBPB 109

both create one 8th triplet (aka 3 notes spanning a quaver). The first examples spans the space of 3 16th notes and the second examples spans the "space" of 3 quaver.

What you like better depends on what you like to do.

Whatever you do here requires careful construction and likely changing the length of some of the patterns involved if you wish to keep your patterns in sync.

In other words:
Possible but you need to be careful about timing.

Feel free to ask more specific questions in case the above is not clear.

Kind regards,
Michael

Thanks for your guide, I will look into it.

However I feel this is not a workable solution. It is far too unintuitive and prone to errors for users to be expected to do this.

Your first "groove" technique seems the most doable, I will have a go at that, thanks for your examples as they help illustrate what needs to be done.
