Set Pattern Length's in Ticks

Yeah I think that's what I'm saying, at the minute if I set the pattern length to 8 steps, afters its played the 8th step it returns to the 1st. And I'm wondering as an alternative if I'm able to set the pattern length in ticks instead (of steps ) - say to 48 ticks so that after its reached 48 ticks it goes back to the start of the pattern, and then i'f I'm adjusting the tick count per step ( flexing the rhythm of the pattern if you will ) regrardless of how many steps it played after its reach the desired tick count specified it resets to the first step ? am I explaining myself?
