Sega controllers?
#51
I ordered the retrobits one for this purpose and it works well here, so no chance right now to find out what the issue is.
I will get none working ones soon so I can test these and see how this can be solved.

Picked up the 8bitdo Retro Receiver and it works great wirelessly. I’m using a PS3 controller and it’s great ergonomically. Have shoulder buttons mapped to shift & ok, the others to sequencer, pattern, Automator/nerd, and delete. Also, start for start and select for stop. Really cool flow for me. Amazed at what Thomas has come up with for modular!

Hello people!

I just wanted to make a small report.

After my retro-bit wired controller fried for some mysterious reason i ordered a 8bit-do receiver with a sn30 pro+ wireless controller (from 8bit-do as well) and it is just amazing, 8bit-do made a software where you can remap all the buttons, but with it you can also program some macros into the controller, what is just super great for the NerdSeq....

Be aware the software work only with the sn30pro+ and not with the regular sn30pro.

So you can for exemple by one button press in the pattern screen enter a note, then jump to the next row or any key combos like this...

Just starting to make a template now but i can see already lot of possibilities to improve the workflow with this like "mark => copy => paste under" by one press!

Also you can save different templates for different uses (editing or live performance) and just pass them into the controller from a computer.

So this config seems definitly the best one ever we can get for the NerdSeq as from 7 buttons we now can have 13 buttons with custom functions on each... this is just super cool :O

Cheers!

This seems fantastic! Do you happen to have any idea whether one could just buy the adapter and use, say, a PS4 controller, complete with macros?

Thanks!

It is not gonna work by itself with the 8 Bit-do software, the macros are programmed inside the controller, and it gonna work only with sn30pro+, or with another one that is more arcade style controller.

But maybe we could find some kind of device to go in between a controller and the NerdSeq to add some macros? Some kind of microcontroller like esp 32 with bluetooth onboard should be able to make the bridge in between. (but im not shure how easy it would be to make this happens)

Anyway i forgot to mention you could also use this setup to have the directional pad on the right hand instead and arrows for functions , some peoples might like this Smile .

All this can seems a bit overkill, but in my case i do think its worth the few extra bucks... it can simulate a cut and paste function or this kind of things, ability to mute the tracks by one press also is also nice for live setup. But it as much more usefull and fun macros we can find i'm shure...

You should ask the developer of the NerdSEQ for this kind of macro thing. Surely he find this
interresting.

Oh yes im shure Smile

Yes i guess it could be a macro function added to the gamepad setup? this would be awesome Smile

I think when you gonna release a full midi control implementation where we can make macros even to input values, fx etc.. and we can make some customs controlers exactly how we want them  that gonna be the best we can have Smile

Oh god, MIDI macros would be the ultimate.  Tongue Tongue Tongue

Just to report that the 8bit-do receiver add quite a lot of noise to the two audio outputs of the NerdSeq.

Im wondering if this is specific to my controller (sn30pro+) or does everybody have this problem?

It happens only when the controller is paired with the receiver, else it is fine, even with receiver pluged in with no controller connected.

Not terrible but still can be quite anoying and definitly a big noticeable difference with or without controller.
