Live midi input

Hi!
I've recently updated the firmware of my beloved NerdSeq to version 1.20

Before the update, I was perfectly able to record live midi notes, through the midi expander, from my Keystep. I say live midi notes and not just note after note.
In the pattern view, the cursor on the left was scrolling and notes were recorded "in time"

I'm now unable to do so and that's really boring 


My setting in the "input / record setup":
- Live input: ON
- Midi data input: ON
- Midi step channel: let say "1" (what is that??? Do I have to change it everytime i want to record on a different channel??? Please, nooooooooooooo !!!!)
- Midi Channel 1: Track 1 input

What's wrong here?

In the pattern view, I hit "record", the cursor is scrolling, the red selection tab is on the "00" and the "live input" does not work at all. I need to use the cursors up and down to insert note through my midi keyboard. That's not really what I call "live recording"...

I hope you'll find an answer to that. I'm really bored, because that was working pretty well before the update and without all these new setup/midi settings.

It works for me using similar settings but I think the midi step channel might be the cause? From the manual:

MIDI STEP CHANNEL → Choose a Midi channel that is used to edit notes directly in the pattern screen. To use it, the cursor must be on the note column of the pattern screen. Playing a note (for example on a midi keyboard) will insert a note at the cursor position. If the note is released on the same step as the note on, then a trigger (kill for midi tracks) is being inserted for a short note. If the note is released on another step, then a note off is being inserted. Holding the note for more than 1 second will remove the note at the cursor position.

I haven't used this feature but I have midi step channel set to off.

Unfortunately, that does not work here. I'm soooooo BORED!

If i set "Midi Step Channel" on "none", live midi recording does not work at all.
When it's set to "1" and when I try to record notes on channel 1, only the step selected with the "red selection" is recorded but not "live" (as you mentioned, the red selection cursor is on the note column)
If the red selection is on position "06" the note played on my Keystep will be inserted only on position "06"

I bought the NerdSeq two months ago and was so happy with the ability to live record midi notes. And then I've updated to 1.20 and now I am so annoyed....... grrrrr

MIDI Step Channel is only for step sequencing, not live recording.

Make sure you go to "Input / Record Setup" and under "Midi Channel 1" make sure it points to "Track 1 Record". "Midi Channel2" - > "Track 2 Record" etc. This will make it behave the way it used to in earlier firmwares.

Also make sure MIDI Data Input is ON

I live record MIDI all the time with 1.20, it totally works!

In earlier versions the midi channels were fixed mapped to track 1..6.
Now you can flexible map every midi channel to every track. And this with and without recording.
It saves with your project, so you don’t have to change the setting every time.

Midi step channel is another new feature which allows to simply input notes indeed only at the cursor position.
