Repeat sample pattern via BRK
#1
Hi,

I am experiencing an odd issue when using BRK with sample patterns that are adjacent to each other. For example, I have a pattern that's 4 bars long and BRK is set to 00 01 (repeat twice) and following pattern is 4 bars long and BRK is set to 00 07 (repeat 8 times), the patterns do not respond to those BRK conditions. Instead, they play 4 bars before jumping to the adjacent pattern. I have tried variations of these conditions with the same basic result.

BRK works as expected on non-sample patterns. Strange. I am running firmware v1.20.

I can't reproduce your issues regarding the repetitions. These seem to work well for me. Keep in mind that these are only valid with the first sample of each track. If you use the 2nd sample with the repetitions, these are ignored.

However, i realised another problem when testing right now and that is when you use the jump command to a row. It seems that this is not working endless but for some reason the loop exits mostly after a few iterations. I got to check this a bit deeper.

It may be that I'm not utilizing the first sample. I'll test this and report back.

Hello,

I was using the first sample so that was not the issue in this case. I can send you an example project file to demonstrate what I am experiencing. The project file starts with a 4 bar pattern followed by two 8 bar patterns in succession. The first pattern plays 4 bars, the second pattern plays 4 bars and the third pattern plays 1 bar and then loops back to the first pattern. Where would you like me to send the file?

Oh yes please. You can add it here or send it to XOR Email

OK, i checked your file and i can reproduce it. And it happens if more than 4 bars are repeated more than 4 times. (thats why it didn't happen with my test here).
So what basically happens is that since they are 2 sample parts for each track, the first part is only repeating while the 2nd runs through (you can simply test that when adding also something on the 2nd part in the first 4 bars). So with 4 times repeat the first 4 bars, the 2nd part reaches step 64.
If you have the 8 times repeat, the 2nd part reaches step 64 also after 4 repeats...and bam, it reached pattern end and goes over to the next.

I got to take some time to look into this as the function to play 2 possible parts within one track independend from their time/steps makes it a bit complex, so i have to take a good look to do it well. That means it most probably won't find it's way into the coming release, but right after that.

Thanks for the report...it took like 2 years until this came up :-)

I initially experienced this with one sample and tried different numbers of iterations with similar results. I wasn't sure if this was a bug so I posted in the general section. Thanks again!

I am not completely understand this because the repetition is not working here. I have just a 64 steps pattern that I want to be repeated 4 times. At the 64th step I put the Break/jump fx in (on the first Sample fx row) with 3 times repetition So it will be 4 times 64 steps, but it goes straight to the next pattern in the row... The second sample pattern is also 64 steps... I am a bit confused because it works on the cv tracks... enlighten me here.

And what is written here allready is a bit confusing to me.

Hey, it looks like the last step has a different behaviour than the other steps. I will check out whats going on here. Until then, just use the pattern either 4 times or maybe patterns with less steps.
