Stop tracks that have an empty pattern selected
#1
Currently, when starting a whole row, the tracks that don't have a pattern will play a pattern higher in the column.
To me it would be much more useful to stop tracks with empty patterns. In a live set, it would make for easy muting of several patterns, and it would be more transparent to see what happens when starting a row.

I absolutely use the "if empty, pick the first available pattern" function all the time in live settings. If you want an empty pattern, reserve an empty pattern (00/01/02 for cv/midi/sample, for example).

Yes I've tried that, but it is confusing. It is not transparent that a certain row will mute because of a pattern with a certain number, and also made mistakes where notes ended up in the empty pattern, leading to some very unwanted results. Also if the mute pattern is a different number in a different project, it adds to the confusion.

Maybe we could have a dedicated built in mute pattern, looking like the note off [    ]. That would make both scenarios possible and transparent.

I think the last is a valid option. I remember this discussion from some years ago where people wanted it to act like ableton. And you know, every 'like ableton' feature request will be ignored ;-)

Ok cool, yes adding [ ] would also not change any existing behavior, and not adding another setting. Would be cool, thanks for considering!
