[FIXED] Gate stuck problems
#1
Hello,

I recently bought a NerdSeq and I'm having a lot of problems with the midi to CV function.
I am using the latest firmware 1.23 but I had the same problem in 1.22.

When I play on keyboard from my DAW (Logic) to the nerdseq input, very often the gates get stuck in ON position. CV pitch still OK but gate don't work anymore.
I always have to do a shift + stop to reset the gates (yep the sequencer is not in play mode).
It seems to me that this happens when I play legato.

Concerning legato, I haven't found any option for note priority, HIGHT or LOW. No mention in the manual either. it is however a common option.
By default only LOW note trig the gate output when i play legato.

When i play sequences from my DAW, for example on two tracks, one track with 1/16 arpeggio and the second track with a plated bass. many notes are lost from my arpeggio or are no longer played at all.

I have never had this type of problem with any other midi interface in the same conditions.

Do you have an idea of the problem? I'll be able to send videos if needed.

Thank you.

Is there a way that you can record the midi data so
I can analyse it?
With a note on a note off for the same note should follow at some point.
With monophonic tracks, a note counter is used and the amount of note on should match the amount of note off, else you indeed get a hanging gate.
If you play a note the gate will be set and if you play more notes, the cv is always updated. On the release of the last note, the gate os being released.
I am currently not aware of a bug with this. So the data would help to find out whats going on.

Allright,

I checked your Midi files and they work perfectly here. Which brings me to the question how did you set up everything in the NerdSEQ and are the midi files exactly what your logic midi sends out? I assume you did only a midi export?

Hello

On the nerdseq I set up the inputs to receive my midi channels from 1 to 6.

input 1 input 2 input 3 etc...

picture

nerd pb midi channel 1.mid and nerd pb midi channel 2.mid are actually midi exports from logic.

On the other hand the file "nerd pb midi channel sum.mid" is a record of the midi output usually used to send data to nerdseq.
I simply wired it into an entry in my midi interface to record it and then export the midi file.

What annoys me is that i have no problem when i play the same thing with my Yarns ...

I think I have found the origin of the problem.
The midi track of my bass line contained aftertouch data (that i had captured when i play on my keyboard).
I manage to reproduce the problem when i write a sequence in my DAW and add an aftertouch automation.

Hey. Hmm, does that mean that the aftertouch data is send but no note off then?

I think your recorded midi doesn’t contain the aftertouch data.
The nerdseq can receive aftertouch data and can also record it for midi purposes.
So i am not sure why it should interfere with anything.
But, I am absolutely interested in the real data so i could maybe see whats going on and if there is any issue, solve it.

I can set up a special firmware which can record the midi data in the NerdSEQ and dump it on the SD Card. Maybe you could help me by installing it temporary and provide me with a dump then?
Let me know, I will contact you directly then.
