Anyone use NSeq with Akemie's Castle?

I know this thread is about Eurorack options, but I received the MegaFM in the meantime and my first experiences with it are just outstanding. By far the easiest FM synth to work with I've ever laid hands on. Next stop: MIDI control via NS expander out.

I’ve been trying to focus my FM duties onto Akemie’s and the M8, and none of you are even remotely helping my GAS. 

As for the thread being about or not about eurorack options, I wouldn’t worry much about that. I don’t think there are too many modular purists here. Methinks we’re all pretty dedicated to using whatever combination of gear helps us make music.

I appreciate all the responses! I will admit that I do already have the akemie’s castle, but I didn’t have the nerdseq until this week. In planning to build the case I was trying to justify keeping the castle and I’m glad I did. The cv16 expander is unreal with it. I can’t wait for the i2c expander for my er-301, this shit is unreal powerful.

The Quad Operator seems a lot more flexible than the Akemie's Castle. So unless you want that nasty OPL3 sound, that would surely be a better option. And it doesn't seem to lack any CV control.

I do love my Akemie's Castle though! It's super fun and has a lot of character. And the knobs are nice to mess with - I don't like those little knobs that the Quad Operator has. Looks cramped.

I remember the 80's when I first got my hands on a DX7. The DX7 also has a similar type of "nasty" sound that Akemie's has. I feel warmth towards that sound quality due my fond memories of that heritage. It's got real character. It's so Drexciyan.

I have never had a chance to use Quad Operator but I really like the look of the more flexible routing options. I would like to get one at some point.

One big feature that Akemie's Castle offers is the ability to generate chords. To me, that is a massive thing. Using Nerdseq, you can set the root with the CV and set the chord type with the Mod value. You can also use an additional output to control the inversion.

It’s interesting timing that you mentioned this. Seems a shame to leave that paraphony untapped, if you know what I mean, so these days I more and more often find myself feeling like I’m underutilizing Akemie’s if not using it for chords. Well, underutilizing it more than is already the case. I always need more time for deep dives.

The other options we all talked about earlier in this thread are still super-interesting to me. I’d love to pick up a MegaFM at some point (moreso than the BlastBeats, for some reason. I haven’t been quite as happy with the examples I’ve heard from that, though I’m sure lots of folks will love it,) especially now that I’m looking to bring some more MIDI devices into the equation. And the Quad Operator is still of course a lovely take on things. So much cool gear, so little time.
