Plug a NerdSeq output to a NerdSeq input
#1
Hi, is it safe to do so in any cases?

Few times i tried this it seems i had some issues and it didnt worked as expected,
Right now im trying to transpose all the tracks using a input of the NerdSeq by sending some notes with a cv output.

And after testing i have the same problem transposing only one track by an input the same way.

This should work?

Its doing some transpositions but not at all in the good range.

Every semitone increment the transposition by 3 or 4 steps.

Also i have a +1 transposition by sending the note "d-1" and a transposition of -3 by sending the note "c#1" instead of having +0 on the note "c-5"
(im not 100% shure now that transposition from input work with v/oct as it is not really clear in the manual but as i understand it is...)

I checked that im in the range 0-10 volts on the cv outputs so its not coming from here and also the track that is sending the notes for transposition is set on "avoid" so it dont transpose itself (i first tought that this was the issue).
I dont have other hardware now to send v/oct on the input to check but im quite shure i did this already before and it was fine.

By the way can it be harmful to do this kind of patching?

What about sending negative voltage to an input, can this be dangerous?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, i couldnt find anything, but i remember Thomas was saying about some kind of patching like this in some post as a workaround for something.

It is fine to connect in with outputs.
Staying within 0 to 10 volts in the input is recommended, if you get negative it will not harm anything.
But it makes no sense at all.
The transpose function work with 5 volt as middle level which means no transposition. Above it transposes higher and below it transposes lower.
If it’s not correct then you might need to recalibrate your inputs.
PLEASE use the search function if something have been asked or discussed before.

Ok, thank you for the fast answer, i will try to calibrate the inputs.

That was it, i made an auto calibration of the inputs and all is fine!

Thanks!

Now try patching a vpme.de T43 in the middle of that loop. Trust me. Smile http://vpme.de/T43/

And since you’re likely to bump into this as I did: Note that if you change that output on step 1 of a pattern, the transpose value won’t be updated until just shortly afterward, and tracks won’t pick that value up and use it until their next note. So if changes seem to be “late” you may need to move that transpose output a tick (or step or what have you) earlier.

Thanks!This one look really cool!

I just posted at the moment you answered about the issue of transposing happening on the next step. that is a bit sad limitation...

i hope one day this get improved so we can have a "master transpose track" running very slowly to make quickly a full song out of few patterns filled with some randomness things Smile

Ok i just get the full meaning of your post and offseting by few tick the all transposition pattern seems to work quite well!

Its only a issue for the first step of the transposition pattern now wich is more acceptable, many thanks!

Yeah, for those use cases where self-patching is required (I actually have more going on in mine than just the T43 with one input into it, and so would need to continue self-patching even if NerdSEQ gained more transpose options) this physical loopback approach is always going to make for a bit of work related to timing.

I’ve been halfway tempted to do an experiment where I get one of my “control” tracks to intentionally run a tick (or few) ahead of everything else. There’d be some issues around track resync to the main clock but I’m tempted to play with the idea anyway since those might not prove to be too large or frequent of a problem and it could simplify the patterns driving that transpose input.

If I get around to trying that and have anything interesting to report I’ll try to reply back here with it. (If it ends up working well then oddly enough I’d probably end up not using any optional instant-transpose Thomas might theoretically add. For now: who knows.)

PS: The T43 photo on the vpme web site makes the module look like crap. The real module is actually quite nicely produced.
