Step sequencing using keyboard to enter note
#1
Hi!

Just a usefull feature i would love to see, but i'm new to Nerdseq, and still scratching the surface.. so forgive me if it's already implemented...

Would be nice to be able to select a step, press shift and input the note value on my master keyboard....

I love the ability to record it live, but because my keyboard playing is what it is, being able to correct mistakes on the fly this way would be a nice touch.

Other thing, perhaps more related to my own master keyboard and its velocity sensitivity.... but when i do live recording, most of the time i get more note off command than propper note on command on it... is this a behaviour that can be easily fixed?

thanks for your time!

Hey,

this is going to be implemented soon. For now there is only live-recording but the additional note-input when editing via midi is not implemented yet, definitely coming soon.

About the note on/off. I guess this is something your keyboard does. They are 2 kind of Note-Off commands that Midi does. One is a real note off and another is a Note ON with velocity 0 and both are usually recognized as a note off. Thats the only possible translation en recommended to avoid hanging notes.
So i wouldn't know what i can change about it. Maybe a setting where you can turn off the Note ON/velocity 0 situation? Might be an option and if i add this, it'll be when i completely update the Recording functions which are still basic at the moment.

Great Smile

I wanna check my master keyboard, and see if i can turn off velocity, or perhaps change the settings of it.

Thanks for the reply!

Cheers!

Yes try that. On the other hand it should work with all midi keyboards, so i am very interrested of course to see whats happening here.

Just to get some information:
At which times the Note-Off are inserted? Only when you released the last key or also when you press a key?

It seems like it happens everytime I hit a key too fast. I mean, the value of the note appears on the screen and it is replaced immediately by those note off brackets.

Changing velocity have no effect at all.

Perhaps it's beacuse of the inner architecture of the step sequencer? I mean, perhaps only quarter notes can be recorded? everything faster is replace by note off, cos the seq think both informations (note on / off) are happening on the same step, and only the last info (note off) remain?

Oh yes that sounds like a possible problem.
I got to think about a proper solution for this, of course a note on can't be on the same step as a note off.....

Yep definitely... so for now, i just run the nerdseq at twice its speed...  working pretty well actualy Wink

Hi,
I find the idea to be able to enter notes with a stopped sequencer very compelling too. After a note is entered, the cursor could advance the same amount of steps like in manually entering notes via shift-cursor that are set in the prefs ("Quantisation").
This should of course by no means mean instead of live recording notes but rather both options would be useful.
I just checked whether the Rest Button of a Keystep sends any midi data but it doesn't seem to.
I also tried to do something a la 'one-shot-recording' by saving notes into the keyboard, slaving the nerdseq to it, let the sequence run and hit stop at almost the right spot which worked but counting to 64 while playing 1/8 notes is a bit of hit-and-miss  Smile

It will also be there at some point.

You can also chain 2 patterns, 1st the one you want to use and the 2nd one which is not important. So you record and can press stop after the sequence is ready. If you press stop too late, no problem as only the unimportant pattern will be filled in after the first loop is ready.
