Importing .mid files
#1
Hey! Just joined the forum.

I'm thinking of buying Nerdseq this weekend.

One of my main usages would be to play old NES songs by having my own oscillators as the sounds.

So would it be possible to import .mid files out of the box or convert them to a suitable format and then import them?

Here's an example of a .mid file:

EDIT: If this isn't possible at the moment, I'm willing to create a script to do this if there's any documentation on how the .ns files work.

Hey,

this is actually not possible. The NerdSEQ can't read and convert Midi Files.
However, you can record the midi data generated by the midi file and probably get a similar result. Since in the basic configuration you could record up to 6 midi notes at the same time (lets assume one channel up to 6 notes), you should be able to record the bubble bobble main theme. The only thing is that it would record into the 'grid' and if you got off grid data it will qualtize it to the grid. That shouldn't be an issue with many NES songs though.

I will, when I find some time, try it out with the mid you linked.

And in any way also, you can just have the midi file played via midi from your computer into the NerdSEQ which would convert it and plays directly into oscillators. That is definitely something that would work.
PLEASE use the search function if something have been asked or discussed before.
