Transpose: Change notes immediately?
#1
I find the real-time transpose feature particularly powerful and use it all the time. At the moment the transposition takes effect when a new note plays. Would it be possible in a future release to change the notes immediately instead of waiting for a new note to trigger? It's actually very pleasing hearing patterns being transposed as the notes change and it's a great effect, but isn't very useful for held notes or notes that are triggered infrequently like drones. If it is possible perhaps allow a setting to change on note / immediate? I realize there might be good reasons why this can't be implemented but thought I'd ask. It is of course possible that I have overlooked a setting or something and haven't figured out how to do this...

Also, I've found either a bug or limitation (or a design choice?): When both an input jack and midi have global transpose enabled then only the input jack works and midi notes have no effect, you have to disable input jack transpose to allow midi transpose to work again. I haven't tried combinations of individual track transpose so don't know if the behaviour is similar or not. It doesn't really bother me as I rarely want to use 2 devices to do this, but if someone else is wondering why their midi transpose isn't working they may want to check this.

Maybe not many people use the live transpose feature or come across this?
I discovered something else last night which confused the hell out of me - I was transposing using midi and when I stopped the sequencer and restarted it all my notes got transposed up a couple of octaves.
It turned out that disabling "Reset FX on Seq stop" in the setup menu stops this behaviour. It seems midi transpose is also treated as an effect so I thought I'd share in case someone else has a similar issue.

Track transpose is treated also as an effect indeed and thats why it resets if the FX of the track are reset.

As for the note change directly. I will check if that is practicle and possible. For sure it will never work with Midi as there is no note change command with midi. So playing notes will either not transpose until a new note plays, or they have to stop and start again.

Im trying to transpose all the tracks by using one input and sending notes with a cv output of the NerdSeq with a dedicated track, but its not working properly as the transposition happens only on the second note of the pattern i want to transpose.

if i send the transposition on the step before, it does what i want, but i would like to have my transpostion track to run much slower than the others and also it become a problem to transpose the first note of the patterns.

Is it a way to make the transposition happen on the same step that it is send?

(sorry if this is the exact same question as ianski but im not shure he asked for this exactly or for transposing notes without retriggering)

Whoa, talk about reply timing. Wink

I too have an interest in this, as folks can probably tell from my recent reply in the other thread touching on this in the context of self-patching.

While I wouldn’t expect the output->input transpose loop to violate the laws of physics Smile, it would be great if track types other than MIDI could support optional (per track setting, perhaps?) immediate application of transpose.

For purely in-NerdSEQ transpose work, I imagine that the resulting output might be sensitive to which track includes the transpose FX commands, but so long as that’s documented I’m sure folks would be fine living with it.

Haha yes finnaly we crossed each other from threads to threads Big Grin

Yes no doubt this kind of tricks have a huge potential, i dont get it fully yet how the transposition works but now im thinking of what could be possible if it happened in real time
like doing a big general pitch glide on all tracks wich could give some really cool effect Smile
