  Keyboard expander
Posted by: FuzzedOut1 - 07-06-2023, 07:02 AM - Forum: NerdSEQ Expanders - Replies (2)

I’m wondering if you have any plans for making a NerdSeq specific “keyboard or controller” expander in the future. I have the expander module and have been struggling to find a keyboard to pair with it and it just occurred to me that a purpose made keyboard specifically for the NerdSeq would be ideal.
I personally would much prefer a keyboard made with the same clacky buttons as the NerdSeq with only the necessary keys included and labelled. The qwerty note keys could be made with a conductor keypad similar to the Buchla or Microfreak, pads or the same clacky buttons. Also a sega style NerdSeq specific controller that mirrors the front panel of the NerdSeq would be handy for a few people possibly as the NerdSeq could sit quietly anywhere in the rack patched up especially with the use of a monitor screen and tv out module.

  NerdSEQ fonts in TFF format?
Posted by: megarat - 07-04-2023, 06:46 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (4)

Greetings.  Is it possible to get any of the Nerdseq fonts (ideally the original blocky font that is used on my silver faceplate) in TTF or other format?  I'm considering making some custom keycaps for the keyboard that I use with my Nerdseq + More Video I/O, and to have the legends in the actual Nerdseq font would be nifty.

Do not send CV (or disable row) when trigger is set to '--'
Posted by: Airell - 06-30-2023, 08:47 AM - Forum: Feature requests - No Replies

Hi XORadmin,

The feature I would like to request is a 'nerd' option (pattern or track?) that when a trigger is not set '--', the CV (and Mod/FX?) is not sent as well.

Explanation:

A 'traditional' sequencer has the ability to 'disable a step', so no trigger and CV is send when the sequence is at that step. This means when the previous step was processed by an envelope and, for example, the release stage is still happening in the 'current disabled step' the CV will not be send/updated and the pitch does not change.

There is no 'disable row' function on the NerdSeq. This means in the case above, when no trigger is set in the current row/step and an envelope triggered in the previous step is still 'in progress', the new CV note output will update the pitch in the release phase. This is not a big problem when manually 'pre-programming' a pattern. You need to delete both note and trigger on a step.

With the feature request, one can set all notes (manually set follow a scale or have it quantized by a table) in a pattern and use the Euclidean rhythm function to set triggers without having to delete all notes which are not triggered to avoid the 'pitch change during release'. This makes 'quick programming' much easier.

I'm not sure if a 'trigger value' is handy to use here (if there are any unused values left), because the Euclidean rhythm function turns the row off '--' or sets triggers to the current selected one (-ish). That's why I think a solution when '--' is set, a CV (and Mod/FX?) change per track would be more easy to implement. Also I understand that the 'glide' option is also impacted by this.

Cheers, Airell

A way for no CV change when no trigger is set
Posted by: Airell - 06-28-2023, 06:57 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

Hi there!

Is there a way to not have the CV change when there is no tigger set? Like, no trigger set is 'turning the row/step off'.
I have (randomly / Euclidean rhythm fill) set triggers and set *all* CV values, so I haven't set all triggers and would turn them on when I like (e.g. using Euclidean rhythm fill/rotate) .

Now this makes jumping the pitch in the middle of a envelope when there is no trigger in the step. Now to avoid this, I need to delete all the note pitches where there is no trigger set...

Like an 'No Note on empty Trigger' option, just like the 'Auto Gate on Note', but the opposite.

Thanks for any tips,
Airell

  Note priority/Held notes/Legato
Posted by: ogy - 06-25-2023, 04:45 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

Hi,

I've searched and found similar questions but not exactly the same so hope it is okay to start a new thread.

I am playing a mono synth voice from a midi keyboard via Nerdseq. All is working perfectly except for one thing...
If I play a note and hold it down, then play another note, the 2nd note plays. But if I let go of the 2nd note the pitch does not go back down to the pitch of the held note as expected.

Its not exactly note priority I know, more how held notes are handled. This is useful to create fast and smooth trills when playing melodies.

I've compared the behaviour to other standalone monosynths to ensure I'm not madSmile

Setup:
I have a midi keyboard connected to the nerdseq set up to 'Track 1 Record' from midi channel 1.
CV1 goes to pitch and mod1 outputs an envelope controlling the VCA. Mod1 source set to Gate 1.

Let me know if there is something I'm missing!

  CV16 TDX issue
Posted by: sllopes - 06-24-2023, 06:42 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

I have a CV16 expander connected on NSA 1 and updated to version 1.2. I have two sequencer tracks dedicated to the CV16 (7 & 8), with the column destinations set to Ext CV 1-6 and 9-14, respectively. When I try to use TD8 on the second CV16 track (8), column 1 (Ext CV 9) it says "Dest. Trigger Unknown". When I use TD8 on the first CV16 track (7), column 1 (Ext CV 1), it says "Dest. Trigger 1 40ms". In both situations, I do not get a trigger output on the CV16 output. In the second scenario, the TD8 command seems to actually trigger the local trigger 1 on the main NerdSEQ module.

This seems like a bug to me, but wanted to post here to see if there is something I'm missing. I've updated the expander firmware once more to see if that would resolve it but nothing changed.

What am I missing about row probability?
Posted by: sllopes - 06-22-2023, 12:11 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (4)

I have a simple 16 step sequence with eight notes running up a scale (C D E F G A B C). Each row has a trigger setting of 40 and I have auto-gating turned off. I am triggering a Qu-Bit Surface and there are no other parameters on the sequencer rows.

When I add PROW in the fourth FX column for each row that has a note/trigger and put in percentages that are lower than 100, my expectation was that the that entire row would either fire or not (i.e. I would get a CV change and trigger or neither). The actual behavior is that I will sometimes get a CV change without a trigger or a trigger without a CV change. When I remove the triggers and turn on the auto-gating, I still get CV changes without a trigger (but not a trigger without a CV change). Firmware is 1.27C.

Is this the expected behavior of PROW?

  firmware 1.28 ....?
Posted by: joesh - 06-19-2023, 06:53 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (8)

Hi Thomas, I'm sure people have asked this elsewhere. Anyhow, after seeing you talking about the new 1.28 firmware update on YouTube, I imagined it would be available here shortly afterwards. So, can you tell us (+/-) when you expect to post the new firmware, which looks like the most important update I've ever seen, very exciting.

Thanks in advance.

BTW, for all those that didn't see the V1.28 presentation:
