Midi wiring

Hi all,

just signed up to the user forum. My name is Christian, I am from Germany and I am totally into Industrial and Ambient Music (and Metal for listening). I have my NerdSeq now for about one and a half months and I love it! :-)

I just purchased a Launchpad Pro MK1 and now I am a little bit wondering on how to wire things up in terms of Midi.

I'd like to control the NerdSeq with the Launchpad but also control my Quadrantid Swarm and SP404MK2 via Midi.

I have the TRS Midi Breakout for the NerdSeq.
Nerd Midi In <=> Launchpad Midi Out
Nerd Midi Out <=> Launchpad Midi In
Nerd Midi Out/Thru in Out-Mode <=> External Device

So far it is clear... (?) But how to hook up two devices without Midi Thru? Can I just use a splitter cable assuming that the devices are listening to different channels? Sorry if this is a stupid noob question but I never used TRS Midi before.

Hey,

TRS Midi is the exact thing like normal Midi only the connector is different (thats why the adapters are included).
What you need is a external THRU box so you can 'split' the signal to be used with multiple synthesizers. Sometimes these synths got their own thru ports which you can use instead.

You can't just split the signal with like a multiplier or so. You definitely use a thru box for that. 

If the Launchpad got TRS ports ( I don't remember right now), then you got to take care that they don't use the official TRS-A Standard but TRS-B instead and you would need 2 TRS-A/B Cables as well. (Which are on the way   )

Ah, thanks for the explanation… figured it out. Just found out that there’s a TRS MIDI A thru module by 1010. Will get that one most likely to reduce the midi wiring mess (compared to a din midi thru box)
