  spfx problem - not stopping
Posted by: joesh - 06-05-2022, 11:40 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (26)

Hi,

I'm new to the NerdSeq, which means my problem might just be me as a newbie to this module.

So, the problem I'm getting is that when I set the SPFX 00C command and then delete it, it keeps on playing/working. The only way to clear the FX is to literally wipe (meaning delete) the pattern.

BTW, I've also noticed that this just jumps to anywhere in the 64 steps. But in the manual it says it should randomly jump within the pattern length. Doesn't that mean within the 'break' points?

So, what am I doing wrong, or is this a bug?

Thanks in advance.

===================================

For your information since I just bought the module, I immediately updated the firmware to 1.25A.

p.s. This problem might be happening on other effects, but as you might imagine it's probably not so obvious as the randomly 'jumping around' SPFX.

  [NO BUG] Inconsistent FX response
Posted by: Zentrumsounds - 06-04-2022, 12:26 PM - Forum: Beauty and less important bugs/glitches - Replies (5)

Hi. New (and so far very happy) user here.

A question though:

I've noticed a lot of inconsistency with FX behaviour in Patterns. For example if I add a number of "Tempo (BPM)" FX or "Select Track Clock" FX messages (spaced a number of entries apart (say two or three) then only respond occasionally. They usually don't respond live, and then after a while they seem to kick into life. I suspect there is some setting that I have missed but I did notice an earlier post that suggested inconsistent FX response also and am now wondering has this been resolved.

No FX probability being used here. New track from scratch and currently just learning and testing.

(EDIT): I note that this only happens with MULTIPLE Select Track Clock messages in a given pattern. Can I not have more than one perhaps?

(V01.25A)

Happy to make video if necessary.

  Pattern BRK with CV input
Posted by: ohho - 06-03-2022, 11:53 AM - Forum: Feature requests - No Replies

I've been trying all sorts of workarounds for this, though it's always cumbersome and doesn't work %100.

So the intention is to be able to BRK a pattern - progress to the following one, through the CV inputs..
So say when CV input 1 receives a high gate, then pattern 001 will BRK and continue to play pattern 002 for example.

I know that you can advance the tables with CV input, however, tables are not only limited in functions, fx etc', but it's just not as convenient and the workflow also doesn't suit full-fledged compositions...

As a sort of workaround to achieve my idea, I have BRK on fx column 1, and 'fx1 probability' on fx column 2, then in the automaton section, I have CV Input modifying 'fx2 overrule' for the appropriate channel...so when it receives a high gate it increases the probability of fx1 that is BRK.. the issue with this is that even when set to to the lowest probability on the given pattern, there's still a small chance of the pattern to BRK, that's already enough to ruin the idea here as it's really unpredictable and the behaviour can't be controlled in the way one would hope for..

What can a 'CV input BRK' function can achieve:
Well, it's perfect for generative music, and can really open up many avenues to expand on generative compositions..not just strictly timed compositions that nerdseq is well known for.
It'll make nerdseq have the best of both worlds, a rigid clocked sequencer that each step can be highly detailed, but also the fluidity of patterns, steps and events essentially - so these can happen in sync with other events in the modular system.

Cheers!

Easiest setup for polyphony with the More CV 16
Posted by: ForAiur - 06-02-2022, 10:08 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (6)

Hello, I‘ll first repost what I just posted under the Youtube Video because I guess I will come back with more questions to really understand how this has to be set up. (https://youtu.be/75YQ7CKU5Bo):

31:38 I feel really dumb coming back to the NerdSeq after another year of break. I watched videos for an hour now and I can‘t get a „simple“ setup working.

I use the More CV 16 expander and just want to play 3 notes at the same time (chords) but also at different times.

I set up 3 channels + 3 envelopes, and got the first channel working with this tutorial (notes on 1, triggers in 2 that come out at at track trigger, so the original nerdseq)

I just want it to work like on my old Hermod. Have 6 cables for 3 notes polyphony and know where what has to be.

I used channel 3 for the 2nd set of notes I want to record (or the 2nd note in a chord) and channel 4 for the triggers. Problems started there. I can only set „Track Trigger“ or „Destination Trigger 4“. Where is „Destination Trigger 4“ coming out?

I would love to have 3 notes and 3 gate outputs in the end. It would be nice to have the gates also come out of the MORE CV 16 so the cables can be next to each other, like Note 1: CV 1, Gate 9, Note 2: CV 2, Gate from channel 10 and Note 3: CV 3, Gate from Channel 11.

But it would also be ok to have all the gates coming from the Track 1-6 Trigger inputs on the original NerdSeq hardware.

At the moment this is my setup and I don‘t understand why the 2nd note is always playing the same note despite the values (C6, C5, C4 and so on)

The note values should be output on channel 3 on the expander, shouldn‘t they?

Brick Trig Condition and/or Row Condition
Posted by: Slown - 06-01-2022, 09:11 AM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (3)

FXs that could be super great are TRIG CONDITION and/or ROW CONDITION

Being an intensive user of Elektron Sequencers I can say that this feature makes using probabilities and randomness much more interesting.

It is the fact that, instead of having isolated elements that are triggered (or not), we now have the power to link several events together.
We can imagine much more musical and complex scenarios for the creation of rhythms for example (or melodies):
For example, if the snare drum on step 13 has a probability setting of 90%, we can set a following break (let's say on steps 14,15,16) composed of several elements (Kick, Snare, HiHat...) which will be triggered only when the snare on step 13 is not playing (10%)!

Scenarios are endless.
It's simple but to set up a grid of mutually exclusive or conclusive events (across any of the tracks) could be a neat way to make sequences with randomness and probabilities more exiting.

We could decline this idea for the Nerdseq in this way:

The TRIG CONDITION parameter can set the following trig conditions:

[PRE YES] is true if the most recently evaluated trig condition on the same track was true.
[PRE NO] is true when PRE is not.
[1ST YES] is only true the first time the pattern play (when looped).
[1ST NO] is true when 1ST is not.
[PRE TRACK-2 YES] is true if the most recently evaluated trig condition on Track-2 was true.
[PRE TRACK-2 NO] is true if the most recently evaluated trig condition on Track-2 is not.
[PRE TRACK-3 YES] is true if the most recently evaluated trig condition on Track-3 was true.
[PRE TRACK-3 NO] is true if the most recently evaluated trig condition on Track-3 is not.
and so on...

Maybe it's more solid to think of ROW condition in the Nerseq ? Or maybe we could have both ?

On the Elektrons there is also a FILL condition witch can be activated by a buttons combo (great fo live uses).
Here we can think to attach this concept with the Automator !

  (Track) Transpose - Delete
Posted by: vidret - 05-31-2022, 02:29 PM - Forum: Feature requests - No Replies

I use the track transpose to mess with tracks live.
It felt intuitive to me to be able to press delete (shift+del) to reset it to default/no transpose - but it wasn't there!

So that's the suggestion.

(PS Perhaps pressing delete on an empty trigger column could be GATE OFF btw? Maybe this clashes with something)

  13 Channels MIDI to CV
Posted by: Sanjose - 05-17-2022, 04:23 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

Hi! I want to convert 13 MIDI pads from a drum controller to CV.
I want to have Gate and CV (velocity) for every pad.
Do you think this can be done with the Nerdseq and a MIDI expander?

  Reset on start?
Posted by: mosorensen - 05-15-2022, 08:11 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (8)

I have a quick question about reset on start.

The Reset Out on NerdSeq fires a trigger when the NerdSeq stops. But, for some of my modules, I also need a reset trigger on start (In addition to the Reset Out; different modules reset in different ways).

A natural starting point is to just put a tigger in the first entry in a pattern (I have a Trigger Expander, if that makes a difference). But, then the trigger fires every time the pattern restarts, and I don't want that. I only want the trigger the very first time the pattern plays and then it should stay off afterwards. I imagine there is some clever combination of FXs and/or Tables that does this, and I am hoping that some of you smart people have already figured out how to do this.

  Play/record all from sequencer stop
Posted by: kriskeyman - 05-14-2022, 06:51 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (4)

I have note CV going to all 4 inputs of Nerdseq.

Input 1 mapped to track 1 MODULAR
Input 2 mapped to track 2 MODULAR
Input 3 mapped to track 3 MODULAR
Input 4 mapped to track 4 MODULAR

Live record only occurs when patterns are playing. I have to shift+play, before shift+record to record to all 4 tracks simultaneously. As such, I’m only able to record starting a few steps in of the playing patterns.

How can I shift+record to all 4 tracks/patterns at step 1? So that the external sequencer, record, and playback all start simultaneously at step 1?

  CV input to MIDI track?
Posted by: kriskeyman - 05-14-2022, 06:31 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (4)

Can CV inputs be used as a CV to MIDI converter? Or can CV inputs record directly to MIDI tracks?

I have the MIDI/gamepad expander. Currently, I'm recording the 4 CV inputs live to 4 separate MODULAR tracks as Note CV. After recording, I'm then copying the CV note values from the 4 patterns of recorded notes, and pasting it in the 4 note columns of the MIDI track. Then going back and deleting the MODULAR patterns.

Is it possible in TRACK ASSIGN, or elsewhere, to have the 1-4 CV inputs map directly to the 1-4 note columns on a MIDI track? Both as LIVE & RECORD?
