  Sample Problems
Posted by: bennos_project - 07-04-2021, 04:49 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (21)

Hey Nerds,

i no there are some threads about that topic. But they didnt help ...
It cost so much time to load succesful samples to the Nerd Seq. I want to load up to 50 Samples. I also have this Noise issues when i play the samples. It doesent matter if Raw or Wave or 16 bit or 8.

At first i tried "Convert to Wav" - it cost 15 € and can convert the samples in some seconds. unfortunatley it doesnt function. Thomas said its maybe because of too much information in the sample data. Then i tried Audacity ... But it takes soooo long to convert 50 samples Sad
Sometimes it is succesful but often there are these noises even when i took RAW unsigned. Also its very often: "Sample too big" on the screen, even if i put the factory Presets back on the SD Card ...

Does somebody know how to convert samples the fastest way? And why there is written "Sample Too Big" if its a really small data?

Thanx!!!
Benno

  More Video-IO Expander
Posted by: XORadmin - 06-30-2021, 08:40 PM - Forum: NerdSEQ Expanders - Replies (49)

As I am short before the new firmware release which adds the 'More Video-IO' expander functionality, I'd like to share all possible pre-information about it.

First lets start with the specifications:
- 6 HP width (42cm/1.64"deep)
- HDMI (regular Type A connection) and composite video output
- USB Host for PC Keyboard
- NerdSEQ screen clone to bigger screens
- PC Keyboard with mapping for the authentic
  Tracker feeling
- Expander uses fixed NSA slot 4
- Available in black, grey or black/grey
- Power: ~60mA (+12V) 0mA (-12V) 0mA (5V)
  (without USB or HDMI connected)
- NSA and Midi Ports daisy chained so multiple
  expanders can be used
- Possible Firmware updates through the NerdSEQ

About the functionality. For the video output it can clone the NerdSEQ screen perfectly on either the HDMI or the composite output (note, it is either HMDI or composite, not both at the same time).
I also added some visual capabilities but these are very experimental and unfinished at the current stage. I plan to work on that, but the only guaranteed video function is the video cloning. (You can check the latest firmware release video from V1.24 which I actually made with these experimental functions (except for the text)).

The USB Host input can be used with a PC/Computer Keyboard. It is not working with USB-Midi keyboards currently. For this the much more advanced USB-Midi Expander is currently in development (and already in production).
The Keyboard Layout is as the following:

ENTER = OK
Right ALT = Stop
Tilde = edit on/off.   with shift: record on/off
Tab = toggle automator screens, toggle to functions in CV16 columns
Cursor Keys and Shift =  Same as with NerdSEQ
Caps Lock = fills in Note off where possible

Keyboard letters = 2 Octaves Keyboard input just like with Renoise or old trackers:
https://tutorials.renoise.com/wiki/Playi...r_Keyboard
Difference:
Space is only start (or with shift) behaviour like NerdSEQ on board start
Right ALT is the stop key, (or with shift) behaviour like NerdSEQ on board stop

When edit is off, then only play mode. When edit is on, then fill in of notes (or triggers) in note column or values wherever possible.

CTRL+C  =  Toggle Mark Mode
CTRL+V  =  Copy/Paste

Delete = Same as SHIFT+delete on NerdSEQ (including Page UP/Down)
Backspace : remove pattern line and shift up
Insert : insert empty pattern line and shift down

Number block 0 .. 9 = Self assignable functions (Not implemented yet)

F1..F12 = Change to screens

F1 SEQUENCER_SCREEN
F2 PATTERN_SCREEN
F3 PATCH_SCREEN
F4 TABLE_SCREEN
F5 CURRENT_VALUES_SCREEN
F6 AUTOMATE_SCREEN
F7 ENVELOPE_SCREEN
F8 TRACK_SETUP_SCREEN
F9 RANDOM RANGES
F10 PROJECT_SCREEN
F11 RECORD_SCREEN
F12 NERD MENU

Shift F1 TRACK_ASSIGN_SCREEN
...
Shift F5 Load Project
Shift F6 Save Project
Shift F7 Load Sample
...
Shift F9 CALIBRATE
Shift F10 GAMEPAD MAPPING
Shift F11 USER INTERFACE
Shift F12 SETUP_SCREEN

Left CTRL F1..F8 = MUTE/UNMUTE Track 1..8
Left ALT F1..F8 = SOLO/UNSOLO Track 1..8

Print Screen = Load Project
Scroll Lock = Save Project
Pause = Load Sample

+ and - on num block = Increase / decrease BPM

Home =  Keyboard octave +1
End =  Keyboard octave -1

I also got some gamepads running with the USB-Host port, but some don't run well. I will provide support and information for the working ones (and these include some nice cheap ones) in a future update.

The Video functions will be enabled with the new coming NerdSEQ firmware which also adds some nice unrelated functions.
The new release candidate which enables the video functions can be downloaded from this thread:
https://forum.xor.eu/showthread.php?tid=1147

The expander is now avaliable and in stock in the webshop.
It will also appear in other shops in the next days.

The expander is being shipped with 2 ribbon cables, one for the NSA port and one for the Midi port. Both are daisy chained and other NSA (port 1-3) can be used next to one of the Midi expanders. The Midi port is needed for the USB Keyboard support and possible firmware updates. It doesn't interfere with regular midi data.

  MIDI note off?
Posted by: Kubase - 06-29-2021, 02:19 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

I've been away for a while (long story) and just got all my music stuff set up again.  I've upgraded NerdSeq to the latest version and am now struggling to sequence held MIDI notes - it seems that MIDI "trigs" rather than "gates" are being sent?  In other words, I can't program note lengths.

  Possible to modulate retriggered gates
Posted by: maxerror - 06-28-2021, 10:24 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

Is it possible to modulate the retrigger values like 3 x 10ms etc. , so that it changes every so often ? If so, how would one go about programming that?

Any and all help appreciated!

Time Constants of Gate retriggers to be divisions of the incoming clock
Posted by: maxerror - 06-28-2021, 10:19 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (1)

I think it would be very cool if it were possible to optionally make the time constants of retriggered gates to be divisions of the incoming clock

e.g 4 x 1/128, 3 x 1/32

  Tape Stop effect
Posted by: maxerror - 06-28-2021, 08:39 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (5)

I think this would be a cool algorithm to add in the fx section for the sample tracks, what do you think?

Is there anyone who found a way to do this with envelope to pitch maybe, how did you set this up?

I'm just making my way thru the manual now and need to get an sd card reader in order to update the firmware so give me a break Cool

Reset on external clock signal interruption
Posted by: schematicwizard - 06-28-2021, 10:07 AM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (1)

Hi!

I'm using my NerdSeq with external sync: with a 24ppq signal + reset signal (Clock IN: Mod. Clock24).

It would be very convenient to have a "reset on clock interruption" option in the setup menu:
When the external clock stops, it would be nice to give the possibility to reset the nerdseq clock (just as if it received a reset signal).

This is the default behavior of Pamela's New Workout CLK input, or Beatstep Pro in CLK sync, but for NerdSeq I have to manually stop/start each time I stop my master clock (or wait for the next reset signal) Smile

What do you think about this?

  Sega Six Button Arcade Sticks?
Posted by: chuckleone - 06-24-2021, 08:22 PM - Forum: General Questions - No Replies

I love the idea of using a joystick over a gamepad, especially for live performances since it makes for a larger, easier to use device for navigation and triggering samples... plus has a cool esthetic to it.

Has anyone tried using one of the Sega six button arcade sticks with the Nerdseq?

I've seen a couple different variants like the Fighter Stick and Power Stick on ebay but i'm really looking to drop $35-$99 USD on one without knowing if it works 100%.

  table source - note
Posted by: depaffect - 06-22-2021, 04:01 AM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (5)

Would it be possbile to have an option where the table progresses when a new note occurs in the pattern?

So it would behave as if you'd put a SPFX011 on each note Smile

  Midi sync (negative) delay
Posted by: shield - 06-22-2021, 03:54 AM - Forum: Feature requests - No Replies

Hi,

I'm on the never-ending quest to make my DAW play nicely with all of the hardware. I am trying to make Ableton the main clock, fed into nerdseq and distributed from nerdseq to all other MIDI devices.

Using MIDI out from the DAW into nerdseq was a jittery mess. However, I have now tried the CV tools outputting a DIN clock on two channels from my audio interface which seems to be rock solid without any perceivable jitter. Nerdseq effectively serves as translator between DIN clock and MIDI sync for all other devices.

My last remaining issue is that the MIDI devices need additional processing time and thus are not perfectly in sync with the Nerdseq clock. Would it be possible to add a setting to Nerdseq that would allow to shift the midi clock output in Nerdseq? There seems to be an inherent delay between clocks output from Nerdseq and for example Tanzbaer which is synced using MIDI, regardless whether Nerdseq is the main clock or set as follower. A simple offset would solve my last clocking problems Smile
