  6-Button Controller Support
Posted by: Fireball - 05-17-2018, 05:06 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (5)

Hello and Good Morning -

I know we talked about this before (email), and it wasn't a high priority, but that was 6 months ago and I don't want this to get lost, so I hope it's ok to post my controller wish list here too.  If anyone else has some input, please do.

I've enjoyed using the NerdSEQ with a Sega controller since the early days, but there are some features missing that always make me have to come back to the front panel.  Couple this with the new TV output feature people seem to really want, I think full featured controller support is a little more important than it was (assuming the TV output will be a supported feature).

The selection of which additional function to map to the controller is a tricky one.  I've analyzed my own NerdSEQ workflow and identified the buttons I press the most that are not represented on the Sega gamepad in it's current implementation.

'Delete' is by far my most used.  After that, my second most used buttons are 'Sequencer' and 'Pattern' as I flip back and forth through the creation of a track.

I'd also like to see the Delete key as the most accessible, so in the end, I came up with the following as the layout I'd like to see for additional controller buttons.

X : Sequencer
Y : Pattern
Z : Delete

Through shift, I believe we could almost automatically gain access to 'Mark', 'Copy' and 'Patch' through these same buttons, so it ends up being much closer to feature complete.

Of course, in those same emails, we had discussed the possibility of completely customizable button layouts (by the user, through settings menu), and this would be of course be the best solution, but adds a lot to your workload.

What does everyone else think?  Are these the functions you'd like to see represented on a 6-Button controller?  Are there even a lot of other controller users out there?  I'm certainly curious to know.

Thanks very much for the time,

  Input/Output Expander Availability
Posted by: monads - 05-12-2018, 10:29 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (4)

Will this be available again for individual sale: "Input/Output Expander for the NerdSEQ, adds Midi I/O and the ability to connect a Sega Gamepad"?  I see it's only bundled with current NerdSEQ purchases but would be nice if for sale again individually.

Question Expander Connections
Posted by: -z0r- - 05-12-2018, 07:44 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (4)

Hello everyone,
Just a quick question (also yay first post):

How long are the expander's connection ribbon cables? Can the expanders be placed in separate rows in my rack or do they need to sit next to the nerdseq itself?
My current rack is getting kind of full and finding more than the hp required just for the nerdseq on a single row is becoming very difficult.

Is it possible to have the expanders on the row above and below the nerdeq?

Cheers

  Tv output?
Posted by: Fleuw - 05-07-2018, 06:16 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (4)

Hi! I must ask if the tv output is actually something ur working on? Or if it just was for Superbooth?
I liked that idea...small screen on top of a modular and a sega controller seems like a perfect combo  Smile

  3/4 beat?
Posted by: Panic - 05-07-2018, 12:16 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

Is it possible to do 3/4 or other odd beat numbers with the nerdseq?
It seems predestined to do 2/4 beats and if I read the manual correctly, one can only achieve a 3/4 for example by changing the pattern lenghts accordingly (e.g. from 16 steps to 12 steps or its equivalents). If that is the case it would be great if the colouring of the rows could be adapted so that it would mirror the beats in the pattern, for example in a 3/4 beat, one yellow row would be followed by two green rows for better orientation. But maybe I have missed something that is already implemented.
Thank you for replying.

  Expanders

Not really a question for XOR but, rather, for forum members..

What expander are you most excited for and why?

I'll go first Smile

1st place - More CV: the second we get more functionality out of the Autotmate menu, I think we're ALL gonna need more CV outs. Envelopes and LFOs in firmware? SHEESH. MORE CV PLEASE.

Strong second place - Matrix Input: I'm not sure how it works or how I would use it but seems cool. I can see how it could make programming and playing drums more fun and "live". Hope it shows up at Superbooth!

  Default Sample Volume
Posted by: skybox - 04-30-2018, 03:30 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (2)

This would be a really nice feature to have--some of my samples are a bit quieter than the others, and it would be nice in the Load Sample Screen if there was maybe a column to set the default volume when it's placed in the Pattern.

  [NO BUG] SD Card Size/Format

This is probably overkill, but I thought I'd try it since I have one--my 64GB SDXC card refuses to properly load on boot.  I've tried reformatting it, using exFAT, FAT32, NTFS, etc and get the same failed to load error.

  Groove Column Totals
Posted by: Fireball - 04-28-2018, 11:22 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (2)

Hey there!

Seems Groove column is getting a lot of attention right now.  I've also been working with some stuff in odd time signatures or changing values for triplets etc, and thought "gee, wouldn't it be really nice to have the total ticks for the current pattern displayed somewhere".  It should probably display both the total for the groove column in the current pattern, and the target number to stay in time with standard patterns.

There's currently some unused screen realestate in the lower right of the pattern screen, and if somewhere it said (385/384) or something to remind me that I've overshot by one tick somewhere, it would be incredibly useful to me (instead of having to listen over and over to identify where I made a mistake, or worse do "math" Tongue ).  Would be even nicer if it changed color (green means in sync, red means you'll drift).  You're of course free to ignore it's advice, but it would make it very clear to the user.

Don't know what else you have planned for that area of the screen, but just a suggestion.

Thanks much,

F

  Sample Bank Switching?
Posted by: note! - 04-26-2018, 04:08 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (5)

Hi! I know this is a stretch but I write entire sets in a single song file and I find myself wishing I could have more (not longer) samples. I know there are old tracker tricks (short samples doubled in length blah blah) but would it be possible to have multiple banks and switch entire banks in sequence? Wouldn't necessarily need to be quick (i.e. on the fly or in time) but being able to have an effect that switches banks at the beginning of the pattern would be really cool. Just a thought!
