  Recording with USB keyboard
Posted by: ShinGensou - 08-30-2023, 01:41 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (4)

Hello!

I’m new to the device, and I have a rather specific question that I’m hoping someone can help me with:

Can I use the USB keyboard’s keys (through the video expander) as the source of notes and gates for recording mode? I think the keyboard data is passed over the MIDI expander cable to the Nerdseq, so I was sorta hoping configuring recording for MIDI input would do it, but so far I haven't found a configuration that works.

Thanks for your help!

Delete audio samples - in sample load menu
Posted by: joesh - 08-26-2023, 11:07 AM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (2)

When loading samples into your project, I've often found myself stuck when the size of the samples used are too big and there's no more space left - i.e. you've used up all the sample buffer space. Sometimes, it is possible to 'overwrite' a sample you've already loaded (as an example you decide that #1 isn't the snare you want, and so you just select another snare in its place). However, on other occasions I notice that if you've used up all the memory you cannot overwrite a sample (as in above example slot #1).

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but as of yet, I've not come across a solution - in worst case scenarios, you're blocked with that project, and there's no way to delete or go back once the samples are selected. Would it not be possible to have a delete sample option, so one could make space and load a different sample?

And, whilst I think of it, why not have a delete function in the load project section? I know you can clean these up on your computer, but sometimes it could be useful to just clean up your 'load' screen directly, maybe?

Probablity and syncro problems with samples
Posted by: joesh - 08-26-2023, 10:51 AM - Forum: Beauty and less important bugs/glitches - Replies (2)

I've noticed that when you use probability FX in the sample (audio) tracks 7 & 8 it messes with the timing.

Best way of describing it, to be more precise, if you use put a probability FX on a snare (as an example) so that it doesn't play every time, it sometimes comes in slightly late, as if the drummer isn't very coordinated.

Any suggestions or explanations are welcome.

  Drum Matrix Request
Posted by: babylonrisingofficial - 08-23-2023, 08:05 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (2)

having a way to map a drum fill to a button via midi would be AMAZING, then I could sell my erica synths drum sequencer and buy the trigger expansion, the erica synths drum sequencer this is called fill mode, and you can just press a track button for a fill, this is a must have for me in a live setting and the last thing keeping me from using the nerdseq for my drums too, also accents would be great

How to select bipolar mode for pitch CV
Posted by: rubberband - 08-23-2023, 07:36 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (3)

Hello nerdseq people.

I'm new to the nerdseq (but very much in love, thanks to my upbringing with Amiga computers and trying to build music with 4 channel .mod trackers)

My questions is, how do I configure a nerdseq modular track to output -5 to +5 v/oct voltages for pitch cv?  I've been through the v1.27 manual and every menu I could find and haven't had any luck yet.  (the manual and website all say you can have either 0-10 or -5-5)  Everything outputs 0-10v for v/oct by default on my v1.27 module.  I'm working around it at the moment by patching the output into a cascading attenuverter with a -5v offset, but it's not ideal.  If I could adjust each track to choose between 0-10v/oct and -5-5v/oct that would be awesome - I have oscillators that expect both for pitch.

Output 8 as a trigger, is it possible?
Posted by: Murcia Parker - 08-21-2023, 05:37 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (4)

I have a FM synth on track 7. I would like to send its output to a LPG module. Is there a way to send a trigger to the LPG every single time a note from the FM synth of track 7 is played? Maybe with track 8 output? How?

Setting: Audio tracks automatically inserting retrig
Posted by: visti - 08-21-2023, 07:30 AM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (4)

After a small discussion in another thread, I guess I gaslighted myself into thinking this was how it used to work:

Similar to how on a modular track, you can select a default trigger when you insert a note, I'd love for there to be a toggle where a retrig is inserted on an audio track, when a new note is being inserted.

It would give parity to composing between modular and audio tracks, as right now it seems a little tedious to (when using the internal voices and internal envelopes for "VCA"): insert note, delete auto-inserted sample slot and volume adjustment, go to FX and add retrigger.

On the modular track, you can very quickly bang out your melody, but on the audio tracks there are a couple more steps, taking you out of a "composition" mindset.

  VISIBILITY, FX, QOL
Posted by: vidret - 08-20-2023, 02:53 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (1)

So last part of my thoughts here are some clarity issues I keep running into, and some quality of life improvements.

Some of these are super simple to implement, and I'm sure they're already on some kind of to-do list.

COPYING AND TRAVERSING FX COLUMNS

My suggestion is for the FX columns to be counted as one cell if they're empty or if we're copying.
Currently it doesn't matter if you copy the FX column as well as the value of that FX, or just the FX column, so copying several columns is a lot of extra movement for nothing.
Same thing if a column is empty and we just want to move across it - there's no use traversing two cells when we can't do anything with the value of the FX column.
FX COLUMNS VISIBILITY
This has been a bit of a nuisance for me, and I'm sure it was a struggle in development how to allocate these 4 FX rows and make everything visible.
As it is now, we cannot see FX cols 2,3,4 if we're on FX col 1
I'm suggesting we make a bit of a compromise to give us a bit more of an overview.
Currently the FX row/column looks like this:

FX   1 2 3 4          (1,2,3,4 are spaced a bit odd)
- - - -   - - -

What if we use the empty values on the right to signify when another FX column has something in it?
Like so (I'm using _ to denote an empty space):

FX__1 2 3 4
- - -  _ -  * -
- - -  _ -  -  -
- - -  _ -  - *
- - -  _ -  - *
TRG2  0 3 7

So here we are on FX col 1, and we can see there's something on FX column 3 and 4 at the steps where there is an asterisk *
We will not show the other columns if we have something in our row, so if we fill it up there's no change, but it buys us a lot of visibility.

And the same, if something is on FX col 2:

FX__1 2 3 4
- - -  -  _ * -
- - -  -  _ -  -
- - -  -  _ - *
- - -  -  _ - *
- - -  * _ - -

So now, when we moved to FX col 2, we can see that TRG2 FX on col 1 as the asterisk. The formatting is a bit rough to do here, but the change would be that an unmarked row
has three '- - -' before a small space before the 4 columns under '1 2 3 4'.

I think this'd be great. I've gotten bitten by FX being on other columns and me not seeing them, and having to go through all the columns (and right now each column is 2 steps) while going up and down searching isn't very fun.

FX Value view

This is one of the luxury improvements I suppose. I really liked the implementation where if we click OK on the FX we get all the FX in a list. It added a lot of clarity.
The values in the FX can do a lot of stuff, so I suggest a small window that pops up to the right as a list if you click OK on the value of the FX you have chosen.

The image below shows both previous suggestions in one image. They also show the below suggested Top/Side visibility, where we light up the current row/column.
Upper part shows where we could show what's hiding in FX column 2.
Lower part shows where the FX values could show up if we clicked OK on the values.

Top/Side Visibility

I suggest a small marker/indicator on the top row and column of where we are. This would make it clearer we are for example on row 6 if we're messing about on the FX columns.
I don't have an image for it, but imagine we are in a matrix - let's always highlight the side value and the top value, and where the row and columns cross is where our value is at.
This is completely stolen from the M8 and it's great.

COPY behavior

1) Very simple, and probably on the way already - allow us to mark/copy/delete just like everywhere else in the automator screen.

2) Allow note values to be copied onto the MOD values in the PATTERN screen (since MOD values can have note values too, it makes perfect sense).

That's all I had. I think some of these are of lesser priority (in previous parts, the ITERATOR for example), but the MARK shortcuts and the DRAG functionality would make this device really fast to use. I understand that there's a lot of advanced development going into i2c, MIDI and other add-ons, but I'd like just the core functionality to be a bit quicker.

Thanks for making a great product, I'd pay to have some of these suggestions implemented (or maybe I could buy a 100$ t-shirt). Either way, keep it up, it's awesome.

  ITERATOR & AUTO REPEAT COPY
Posted by: vidret - 08-20-2023, 12:11 PM - Forum: Feature requests - No Replies

ITERATOR
This one I totally stole from the M8 when I saw it, the rest are my own thoughts and ideas, I swear.
This could live in the NERD menu, and when a block is marked it would iterate from the first value to the last value.
With the aforementioned shortcuts for incrementing/decrementing/shifting values the NERD menu could be used for slightly more advanced functionality instead.
Like so:

The values aren't exact here, but the idea is to move from the first given value to the last, whether it is from a high to a low value or otherwise.
Like an interpolation. An easy way to do increments/decrements (I know about the ADD and subtract functionality, but I think this implementation has great value as well).

AUTO REPEAT COPY
This one I might get flack for.

Currently, if you have one row copied, then go to mark a large block and copy to the block, you copy at the end of that block.
I suggest that the copy gets repeated throughout the marked area automatically. This could be turned off in the project screen.
This would allow a hugely useful way of filling in values (especially with the previously suggested marking shortcuts).

Like so:

Here we copy these 2 rows, then mark another block of 5 rows. We then paste and get a repeat of the values for as much as it can fill up the marked area.

I have no example of it here, but if we only marked the FX column and pasted we'd get nothing since our copy was nothing, as it should be.
I realize now that the marked area becomes unmarked in my example, and it doesn't currently - It could stay marked here as well.
