Heya!

After some very busy weeks ( I just moved my home and workspace to the other side of the country) I am on my way to Chicago for Knobcon!
I try to keep the support running as good as possible and of you are around, come by for sure at my table. You will probably hear about all my secret plans…and get that discount code you were seeking for!  Big Grin

See you there!

MIDI Multi Channel Recording Set Up
Posted by: Joscuzz - 09-07-2022, 09:11 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (6)

Can't get things moving with the multi channel MIDI recording. I'm going round in circles trying to find the missing connection but, alas, I need assistance:

I have 4x MIDI channels with MIDI data set up in Ableton, and outputting through my MOTU to the NerdSeq MIDI expander on channels 1-4.
In the 'Track Assign' of the NerdSeq I have the Base Channel set to 1, and overrides on channels 2-4.
In the 'Input/Record' settings the MIDI Data Input option is on, and the MIDI Channel/tracks set to 'record ie, Track 1 Record, Track 2 record etc.
In the Project settings I have the Edit Mode set to 'On', and the MIDI clock set to MIDI to have the NerdSeq slave to Ableton while recording.

On playback from Ableton I can see the MIDI clips are active. The MOTU reflects MIDI as active through the device, which is correct because I can start/stop the NerdSeq via Ableton.

Any further suggestions please?

Thanks.

Timing Resolution, Ticks, ppqn, track clock multipliers and groove
Posted by: misk - 09-07-2022, 02:50 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

I come from a background in Renoise and one thing I love about Renoise is the ability to adjust the lines per beat (LPB) to achieve higher resolution at the expense of faster patterns (shorter length as well). I would usually use 8 lines per beat, and the default tick value (12 ticks per line). I understand that Nerdseq uses a default value of 6 ticks per line, and that is EXCELLENT for modular, as well as standard for MIDI (24ppqn is great for clocking!).

But what is the best way to properly run Nerdseq's modular tracks at double the resolution? I read an old post a while back that mentioned you could run the track clock at 2x to get a higher resolution but that the way XOR implemented that double-time speed was by multiplying the ticks per line in the background or something?

I'm not interested in *actually* outputting proper 48ppqn clock from Nerdseq, but I am interested in twice the resolution for sequencing.

If I run say, all tracks clock at 2x and set the Default Groove Ticks to 0C (12) will I actually have the resolution of 12 ticks per line in a table? will I have finer control of the groove column to adjust swing on a per-line basis, or is it still calculated behind the scenes as 6 ticks * 2 even though it's presented to me as 0C? was that ever changed?

effectively i'd like to know whether i'm actually increasing my tick resolution when I combine a 2x track clock multiplier with 12 ticks per line, in a way similar to doubling the LPB function in renoise, without having to double my bpm.

kinda like this:

[NO BUG] Track clock from Nerd menu
Posted by: vidret - 09-06-2022, 10:56 PM - Forum: Beauty and less important bugs/glitches - Replies (2)

Using the newest version (1.26 as of writing) I wasn't able to change the track clock from inside the pattern via the nerd menu->track info->track clock.

I tried several times, after changing the track clock (from Normal to x4) it did nothing, and when going back to the menu it said Normal again. When I changed it from the pattern sequencer screen it worked immediately.

Have I perhaps missed something?

Behavior of Break Repetitions with Probability
Posted by: akavalve - 09-05-2022, 12:42 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

If for example in FX1 I have BRK003 at row 01 and in FX2 I have PFX1024 which of the following should I expect:

Each time BRK003 is probabilistically triggered it will play from row 00 to row 01 4 times.

Each time BRK003 is probabilistically triggered it will play from row 00 to row 01 once and the counter for BRK will be advanced by 1 until it reaches 3 at which point it resets.

Each time BRK003 is probabilistically triggered it will reset the BRK counter play from row 00 to 01 once.

The second and third possibilities are probably functionality the same and I suspect one of these two reflects the actual behavior (e.g. it's not possible to randomly replay the first two rows exactly three times).

  Midi

So I don't know if I'm missing something post the last update but I don't seem to be able to enter midi notes any more. Whatever i select on the midi screen (i.e. shift up/down) just goes to note off and cant be changed other than deleting.

[FIXED] Screensaver on for hours causes system hang
Posted by: Barney Rubble - 09-01-2022, 03:44 PM - Forum: Beauty and less important bugs/glitches - Replies (2)

Hi Thomas,

Twice now I left the nerdseq on for 5 - 7 hours unattended. I have come back to find the screensaver on and buttons unresponsive. Power off/on was only way to get it back.

Probably not normal behaviour for most nerds to leave the modular unattended for such a long time. Anyways no biggie more an FYI.

Firmware 1.26

Cheers

  >>> in Table
Posted by: joesh - 08-29-2022, 03:24 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

Hi, I'm sure I saw (somewhere) a shortcut to arrive at the '>>>' or RND setting in a table, but I can't find it in the manual.

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks in advance.
