  Random value on multiple outs?
Posted by: williamjturkel - 01-28-2022, 08:38 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (12)

I'm new to NerdSeq and really loving it. I have been making a lot of use of the random notes, mod values and triggers. Is it possible to generate a random value and have it simultaneously appear on multiple outs? For example, to send the same randomly generated note to CV1 and CV2? Thank you.

Trigger delay not taken into account on midi in
Posted by: yrn1 - 01-26-2022, 05:44 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (5)

When ‘live playing’ a track with midi (track setup - input/record setup - midi channel 1 = track 1 record), and this track has trigger delay configured, this trigger delay is not used when playing the keyboard. Notes that are recorded and then played back do have the trigger delay applied.

Trigger delay for CV16 style channels
Posted by: Friend of Dogs - 01-24-2022, 06:38 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (3)

Hi, Using my nerdseq to control drum voices I realize I'm having trigger delay issues. On a normal channel there's the trigger delay option in track setup, but not in a channel set up as CV16.

  Probability of FX
Posted by: YEONO - 01-24-2022, 07:31 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (8)

Hi XOR,

I'm new user of Nerdseq.
so now I'm leaning and try some...and got some question.

I made a simple straight 16th steps trigger pattern. and I put Trigger Probability on first step FX1 column.(032 like 50% trigger)
and then I delete the FX1 column. but trigger probability still Active!(50% trigger probability). of course I could reactive FX1 and change the value as normal(064 100%). Is that machine design purpose?

Second is similar symptoms in Table, I made some random Transpose melody with quantize note also with probability trigger(50%) FX in Table window. and then I Stopped table(like **) in pattern window. then random melody stopped. but probability trigger still active like FX1 column in pattern window.

Third,  so I checked manual and I found Reset FX Track/ Reset All FX in NERD Menu. But it's not working at all.
Every other order working fine in NERD Menu. like undo, color, TRK Transpose, Track Setup. But Reset FX function not working.
Am I doing wrong something? or misunderstanding with this machine. Please let me know.

By the way, machine is great!!  I have seven other Euro Sequencer. seems like bit hard to leaning and become proficient, But this one is Monster!  Deep and Great function, Huge potential. Exactly What I need that I'm working on these day.

Thanks,
YEONO

  Faulty unit or faulty brain?
Posted by: SRGM - 01-21-2022, 12:41 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (1)

Hello! I recently bought a Nerdseq. The possibilities seem really awesome. However I fail in even the first and simplest thing I want to do – record CV and gate live. It feels I have tried every possible setup with shifting, but all unsuccessful, results. For instance clocking it externally and internally respectively.

I have plugged my Q-nexus keyboard into input 1 and 2 on the nerdseq and patched cv 1 and trig 1 into an osc and envelope > vca in the most straightforward way and the signal comes though, playing notes correctly when the Nerdseq is idle. When starting record it gets weird. If I try to record on track 1 a C-0 note is entered onto every step. Trying the same on track 2 nothing happens at all when I press notes on the keyboard. Nothing is entered into either notes or trigs column. A C-0 note is entered onto the first step of the pattern when shift+record is pressed even if nothing is plugged into input 1 or 2. Is that normal? Seems odd to me.

I have also tried a korg nanokey2 via my DAW and an Expert Sleepers FH-2 with identical results as above with the difference that triggers seem to get recorded.

Being a complete noob to the Nerdseq I'm sure I have missed or misunderstood something crucial, or is what I try to do not even possible? Or could there be something actually wrong? I think I remember that I did manage to live-record notes and triggers (via input 1+2) when I first tried the unit (if a bit wonkily), but after doing a firmware update (1.25) these issues started to occur. I have also tried reloading the firmware but the behaviour remains. What am I doing wrong?

Would be very grateful for any help or thoughts, Thank you!

[FIXED] Cloning a '**' pattern results in new, mangled pattern
Posted by: nsolarz - 01-21-2022, 02:05 AM - Forum: Beauty and less important bugs/glitches - Replies (1)

https://photos.app.goo.gl/fewq15fifGanZ2E97

Steps to reproduce:
1) On a track, place a ** stop pattern (tested for Modular, MIDI, Trigger and CV)
2) Highlight the pattern with your cursor and press shift + OK to clone it
3) you now have a new pattern, incremented like normal
4) Open the pattern and you get the above screen.

Discovered this by accident. No reason you would want to copy the ** pattern, hence its pretty cosmetic

the patterns are "playable" and do not crash the device

Looks like some sort of weird memory copy issue.

Top1 on my wishlist is instant save. I mean saving the current project without interrupt the running sequence.

  Note Over-write Timing
Posted by: rhgk - 01-18-2022, 03:13 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

Hey all, probably a stupid question, but wanted to ask about timing around note changes.

As some background, I'm trying to send a random quantized pattern from other sources through the nerdseq to an oscillator using the following steps:

* Send random quantized voltage and set gate to nerdseq inputs 1 and 2 to a given track
* The destination type is CV Note + Gate for the given track
* Hit record on the pattern and watch the random pattern be recorded to the track and played by the instrument assigned to that track

My question / issue comes about when the track reaches its set length and goes back to the start. If a new note is received on a step that already has a note, there is a small bit of time that the original note plays before the new note is recorded and played, creating sort of a glide effect. For example, if on the original pattern play-through, step 1 is given a C-4 note, and on the second play-through, step 1 is given a F-4 note, there's a bit of a glide effect from C-4 to F-4. It seems like the note playback is slightly quicker than the time it takes to receive and record the new note.

My question is if there's anything to sort of alleviate that note over-writing change effect so that there's no real noticeable change. I tried messing around with the gate delay as a possibility, but didn't see any noticeable impact.

I know there's probably some easier ways to generate random quantized values on the nerdseq directly (specifically thinking tables), but this is specifically for an instrument the nerdseq is controlling via midi, so can't go the table route. If this is just sort of a general timing issue that can't really be fixed, I'll just wait for tables to be implemented for midi tracks! Thanks!

  CV modulation of Euclidean Parameters
Posted by: mrerdat - 01-17-2022, 10:26 PM - Forum: Feature requests - No Replies

I've been loving the Euclidean functionality with the More Triggers expander, it's really great.  I'm interested on optimizing my workflow for live performances and was wondering if CV control of the following parameters would be possible? Being able to automate/do this fast would be amazing for adding rhythm variations during a set.  The shift + OK + Arrow shortcuts are fine, but they're a little slow because they increment/decrement by 1 so you hear all of the in between changes while the sequencer is playing.

Parameter wishlist (each assignable per expander trigger track 1-16):

Euclidean Triggers CV
It would be great to have CV addressable access to the Euclidean trigger parameter so you can jump to different values.  Like if I wanted to go from just quarter notes (4 triggers /16 step grid) to something more complicated momentarily for a fill (11 triggers /16 step grid), plugging something in like a square wave with PWM would make this possible.

Euclidean Offset CV
Pretty much the cv addressable version of shift + OK + up or down arrow

Euclidean Start CV
A cv assignable way to designate the starting step of a Euclidean pattern

Revert Trigger channel (selectable per specific trigger channel 1-16 in expander) to saved option
When you're done with CV'ing Euclidean parameters for a trigger track and just want to go back to what you had previously saved for just that channel, there should be a way either to do this with a trigger or a user defined option to automatically revert the trigger channel back to what it was when no Euclidean CV sources for that channel are active for it in the automate screen.

Thanks for reading.  It would be great if any of this is possible!

[FIXED] Crash when going into midi track pattern
Posted by: Jimmu - 01-16-2022, 04:35 PM - Forum: Beauty and less important bugs/glitches - Replies (4)

Hey! Loving the nerdseq but have encountered an issue when trying to set a track to midi and enter the pattern to start editing it. On a side note, have also have encountered a (seemingly random) crash (Error 1c 9d055dec) that I don't have solid repro steps for but will post if that changes!

Reverting to v1.24 prevents this from happening.

My setup: NerdSeq, with more triggers 16, more cv 16, and io-expander.

Steps:
1) Launch NerdSeq to blank project.
2) Project > Track Assign > Assign any track to MIDI and Set. *
3) Go to the track in Sequencer, assign a new pattern with SHIFT+OK.
4) Press OK to go into the pattern (pressing PATTERN button also reproduces this).
5) Crash - Most of the time will reboot (without an error message), once it hung on a red screen until I manually turned the power supply off.

Notes:
* Roughly happens about 80%-90% of the time when following the above.
* Sometimes I could set track 1 to midi and this would be fine, other times I'd set it to track 1 and it would crash - Seems to happen consistently if assigning MIDI to track 6.
