Some general questions before I take the plunge.
Posted by: Chess1 - 04-25-2023, 02:36 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

Hello all.

Considering getting a Nerd Seq and I had a few questions about functionality.

1. Can I set up different scales per track for incoming and outgoing Midi/CV ? Are these scales named (Major, Minor, Pythagorean, Dorian, etc) in the tables or do I actually need to know the musical theory notes ?

2. Is is possible to use MIDI to do punch in live record ? Or better use a foot pedal for start/stop on track looping ? I would like to use the Nerd Seq as a per channel midi looper with hands free play. Is there a way to assign break commands whilst playing live without using the buttons ?

3. A similar question, I have a midi controller that sends program changes. Would it be possible to send the pgm changes on the fly to the Nerd Seq which are then passed on to my midi module ? Same question for tweaking CC values, are these passed/recorded live or do they have to be programmed through the interface ?

4. Ok and the big one....can I trigger Patterns on the fly by Midi/CV ? I love this type of work flow where you "beat mash" patterns in real time. So it is a twofold question, can you trigger patterns by a midi controller and can you do it off the grid or instantly ? If the answer is yes...can we then record this pattern mashing performance as a song ?

Thank you, I have looked over the manual but was not clear on these questions.

  My second ever nerdseq "track"
Posted by: kattefjaes - 04-17-2023, 11:08 PM - Forum: Your Setup - No Replies

I have to say, I am rather impressed with NerdSEQ. Who knew what I'd enjoy was a tracker with really good native CV support? Cool

Anyway, I am having fun with the thing... Here's what I'll optimistically call the second track I made while learning it. Warning, I think it's breakcore of some sort. Sorry about that.

All sequenced on Nerdseq, stems recorded into Ableton for mixing and minor tweaks.

  MIDI CC Random
Posted by: 33PO - 04-10-2023, 02:19 AM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (1)

it seems like there should be a way to Randomize Range on Midi CC FX

Example below: MARK "XX", then SHIFT-NERD -> Randomize Range

FX = CC A 01XX

  Move/Modify Marked values (again?)
Posted by: vidret - 04-08-2023, 10:00 AM - Forum: Feature requests - No Replies

I understand that SHIFT + UP when having marked a block functions together with COPY/DELETE just as it would if there were no marked values, so let's leave those alone.

How about SHIFT + CURSOR UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT changes all the marked values just as they normally would.

Currently SHIFT + CURSORS(S) marks from the other direction.
What if that was OK+CURSOR(S) to move the mark like SHIFT+CURSOR(S) does now? Simply to retain the SHIFT function of modifying values as usual.

An alternate behavior for OK+CURSOR(S) could be to move the entire block, not change it's size. Since this is just an alternate way of changing both end points it's not necessary.

If this was implemented, SHIFT+OK+CURSOR UP/DOWN could shift what was in the marked block.
This is similar behavior to how SHIFT+OK+CURSOR UP/DOWN already shifts the trigger column.

Maybe OK+CURSORS clashes with something else, but I couldn't find it.

Can you apply a table to channels 7 and 8?
Posted by: soggybag - 04-04-2023, 03:36 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (3)

I have a pattern on channel 7 using the internal oscillator and an envelope. I wanted apply a table to transpose it. Is that possible?

Ive lost all interest in electronics waiting for the i2c expander

It sounds stupid, but it's true. It's been far too long, and should never have been announced prior to any real planned release date.

I'm still going to get it considering how much of an investment I've put into to euro rack, but at this point, I can't imagine using it. It will likely just continue to sit there unused until I need some quick cash.  It's amazing what a hold it feels the instrument makers have over the musicians in the modern day, waiting for mobility, for functionality.

There are no letters which Beethoven wrote wishing for parts of his piano to be delivered, only letters of him yelling at his publishers.

I give up.
Wishing you well regardless.

  Midi wiring
Posted by: Schaltschrank - 03-23-2023, 09:01 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

Hi all,

just signed up to the user forum. My name is Christian, I am from Germany and I am totally into Industrial and Ambient Music (and Metal for listening). I have my NerdSeq now for about one and a half months and I love it! :-)

I just purchased a Launchpad Pro MK1 and now I am a little bit wondering on how to wire things up in terms of Midi.

I'd like to control the NerdSeq with the Launchpad but also control my Quadrantid Swarm and SP404MK2 via Midi.

I have the TRS Midi Breakout for the NerdSeq.
Nerd Midi In <=> Launchpad Midi Out
Nerd Midi Out <=> Launchpad Midi In
Nerd Midi Out/Thru in Out-Mode <=> External Device

So far it is clear... (?) But how to hook up two devices without Midi Thru? Can I just use a splitter cable assuming that the devices are listening to different channels? Sorry if this is a stupid noob question but I never used TRS Midi before.

Cheers,
CK

  Midi track 7
Posted by: Steveambrose - 03-20-2023, 07:01 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (1)

Hello I have just started my Nerdseq journey. My question is that can you use TRS midi out of track 7 and 8? I have assigned these to midi tracks and I am using a midi to CV converter but no Midi is coming out?
Am I being stupid with a setting or cannot it not do midi straight out of the sample 7 output jack.
thank you ,

  quantising to a scale
Posted by: kattefjaes - 03-12-2023, 11:16 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (3)

I've been trying to enlighten myself with the manual, but this is making my face hurt. It's possible that I'm better off asking here, so here goes nothing.. Cool

OK, quantisation.. is there a way to non-destructively quantise notes in a pattern to a scale as they're played? It looks like if I manually set up all the allowed notes in a scale in a table and did something with transpose, it might do it.. but that feels like the wrong approach because it's incredibly fiddly. What am I missing?

Is it possible to select a scale and have Nerdseq quantise to that on playback? On record? Does anyone know of good tutorials for this, as searching for "quantise" or "quantize" in the manual isn't leaving me any the wiser. I'm used to being able to select a scale/key for a pattern/track and for notes to be conformed to it- which is really handy for not just lazily staying in key, but manufacturing variation easily.

I'm fairly sure that all of this will be possible as Nerdseq is full of chocolatey goodness, but I just haven't worked it out yet. Please be gentle!

Wink It's "cuepoint", not "queuepoint", unless we have to line up
Posted by: kattefjaes - 03-06-2023, 05:04 PM - Forum: Beauty and less important bugs/glitches - Replies (5)

Hi,

This one is very low priority as it doesn't harm performance at all, it's a spelling/homophone bug Big Grin

I noticed in at least one place (I think the Project screen, but there could be more), it talks about "live queuepoints". This is wrong and drives me nuts whever I see it.

A "queue" in English is an ordered line, think of a FIFO. A "cue" is a prompt or timing marker. An easy trick is to remember old tape decks with "cue" and "review" over fast forward and rewind keys. Yes, I know, English is a confusing mess, it's full of traps like that. As a native speaker, I can only apologise- a lot of my more careless compatriots also make the same mistake.

https://grammarist.com/usage/cue-queue/

..if you'd like chapter and verse.

I haven't bothered with screenshots, as I suspect that'd be insulting your intelligence, but if they'd actually be helpful, please let me know. This feels like a really weird bug report, but it is probably the first thing I actually dislike about Nerdseq, which is generally a beautifully-engineered device.
