[NO BUG] TR1..TR16 have no effect when the lane has an event at the same time
Posted by: mgd - 08-09-2024, 08:40 PM - Forum: Beauty and less important bugs/glitches - Replies (2)

When there is a Trigger 40 e.g. in Row 08 on lane 3 and in either of FX1..3 of Row 08 there is a TR3 0C3 then only a single hit/trigger is audible. If however I remove the trigger event from lane 3 I hear a ratchet like trigger.

If that is intended behaviour I think this should be changed. The intended use case is that I want the occasional ratchet but there always should be a beat.

This behaviour can be achieved by putting a ratchet in lane 3 and e.g. a PR34 <some_pcnt> in FX1 and TR3 040 in FX3. The drawback is this also influences lane 4.

If the current behaviour can't be easily adjusted w/o breaking other stuff I suggest some clarification/explanation/examples in the documentation as to how this works.

Not sure I made myself clear. I'm happy to explain further if required. This post is the result of a recent exchange in the NSA part of this forum.

Kind regards,
Michael

Question Can't Figure Out More Triggers Ratcheting
Posted by: dangerBreak - 08-07-2024, 05:24 PM - Forum: NerdSEQ Expanders - Replies (7)

I'm attempting to set up a rhythm and have one particular trigger randomly ratchet.  I want it to trigger normally, and then have it do random ratchets.

I had this set up just fine before I bought the More Triggers 16, but after adding it, I can't figure out what to do.

Thanks in advance.  (I used the search and wasn't able to find what I was looking for.)

  Immediate value to XMAP
Posted by: originaljimdandy - 08-06-2024, 12:15 PM - Forum: General Questions - No Replies

Hi there!
Sorry to post such a long and complex question, just trying to explain what I am asking.

I use a lot of CV+CV16 controls with my setup, and I end up doing this a lot, to set a CV16 port to a given value from a MODULAR track:

PATCH XX:

CV5 -> YYYY
XMAP ZZZ

XMAP ZZZ:

SRC CV 5 -> CV PTCH M-NN

(note: the SKIP command around the XMAP block is not shown. I usually run it right from the top of the mapping screen so XMAP 001 is CV16 port 1 and so on)

The CV 5 port is then dedicated to mapping of course. That is not a problem really, plenty of ports  Smile  Where things get messy is when I want to set up a voice, say on track 1, where I have to use a bunch of patches - filling in the patch column and using PATC FX. In some cases I don't get the expected CV16 outputs and it takes a bit of trial and error to figure out which combinations give me the desired outcome.  All I do is rearrange the order/grouping of the PATCH calls. I am not sure if considering the PATCHs as atomic (and executing from top to bottom) is exactly correct.
And keeping this straight is not so straightforward.

SO, is there a better way to do this? Basically, from a MODULAR pattern, set a value on a given CV16 port? Or, set a VAR from the MODULAR track? Then I could dedicate a VAR to go with each CV16 output and have isolation. (It is quite possible I have missed something in the manual that might help, it wouldn't be the first time)

Or is might this be a feature ask?

Thanks,
-james

  Setup strategies
Posted by: soggybag - 08-06-2024, 02:48 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (5)

I have Nerdseq and CV16 setup with a Piston Honda MK 3, Plaits, and Rings, and a couple filters. What I’d like to do control as many parameters as I can from a single pattern.

Currently I’m setup like this:

1. V-Oct VCO 1, _, VCA 1
2. VCF 1, _, Wave shape 1
3. V-Oct VCO 2, _, VCA 2
4. VCF 2, _, Wave shape 2

I need the first 4 channels to control the voices. The triggers here are used for anything, except triggering the Nerdseq internal envelope. I’d like to get some more use out of these.

My plan is to use channels 5 and 6 to control Plaits and Rings.

My question is, is that efficient? Am I getting the most out of this? I’d like to be setup to program some songs without having to re-patch anything.

MIDI track -retrigger last note + audition
Posted by: Liquidcolor - 08-02-2024, 04:46 PM - Forum: Feature requests - No Replies

I mentioned this in the discord, but thought I might put it here as well.

In a MIDI track it would be great to have a way to retrigger the last generated note. This comes in to play when using RNX in the note field. There is no way to replay that note in a following row. This is, of course, easy to accomplish in regular modular tracks as note and trigger/gate data are separate. Perhaps a “LNX” in a column could play the last note from X column. It’s possible there could be a slightly less immediate way to do this with mappings but, since the new puppy, I haven’t been able to do a deep dive

Also, currently I can’t work out a way to audition a note or chord in a MIDI track if there is a RNX command in a column. The normal method brings me to the random settings page. If there’s a free button combo, this would be helpful. I’m often doing fixed triads in three columns and a RNX extension in the fourth.

Thanks for the best sequencer around!

  I2C shenanigans
Posted by: mntbighker - 07-29-2024, 10:39 PM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (2)

I decided the other day to wire two Nerdseq together via I2C and it took a while to wrap my head around the process to get them talking. The ultimate goal is to experiment with randomness and complexity. I realized the I2C can reduce the amount of spaghetti above the panel. I plan to connect Just Friends as well next week when I can get a bit longer I2C cable.

Is anyone else doing anything similar? It is rare to see stuff about people sequencing a sequencer, but I've been fascinated by the idea. So who are I2C nerds out there?

p.s. Any idea why one of my IO expanders has a rubber plugged I2C TRS socket, and the other is not plugged? Bought at nearly the same time.

  Trigger notes - Live Input
Posted by: joesh - 07-20-2024, 11:23 AM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (3)

Whilst on my Live Input sessions, I also wondered if it could be possible (in either plain Live Input or/and Record mode), to be able to set triggers manually, and only when the trigger fires does the note sound coming through the Live Input channel(s). It would make for some wonderful rhythmic possibilities either live or in recording mode.

If it's possible to do this already, please let me know (anybody).  Wink

Thanks in advance.

  [NO BUG] Drum map issues
Posted by: Renzki - 07-20-2024, 02:04 AM - Forum: Beauty and less important bugs/glitches - Replies (3)

Hey Thomas,

Here is an attept to respond to your advice I gathered from Discord direct chat tool.

Quote:Midi is digital and not related to inconsistent voltages.

I agree with you, I understand how it works, at least to that level.

Quote:I don’t really get what you do as now the local CV are involved as well as the launchpad.

Launchpad Pro MK2 > TRS-A in (multi IO) > Nerdseq CV16 track > Dest 1 : N1 TrR16-2 > T2 [TD8] > Erica Sample Drum TR in
                                                                                            > Dest 2/3/4 > EXT CV9/10/111 > Erica Sample Drum CV1 in

Quote:Also I don’t know how you set up everything. What are your settings to get midi in

Quote:[...] and how is your routing to the tracks and how are the track settings.

Described above

Quote:The best would probably be if you send me your project

File sent to you on Discord

Quote:[...]  and explain what you want to do and what goes wrong.

Whats going wrong is when I play notes notes on my midi keyboard the voltage varies sometines to the next closest and make the ESD to play another sample as I have loaded 64 drum samples to it, the CV 1v/oct in controls what sample is plaid on this mapping, lowest voltage first sample, highest voltage last sample. Also, it wont record the trigger in CV16 track as you may already know. Unable to use the TR16 for that as you can't have CVs on it. I can use a modular track however this will limit the outer controls to 2 CVs when 3 are provided on the ESD, and also it has 2 channels so the idea of having 1 track of CV16 with 6 collums was great to control the ESD in full.

Ideally would like to have integrated key mapping on the internal sampler but the way it is now, it only works with sample numbers that cannot be called from an external controller.

Still that video of me showing what's happening seen over shoulder, to be watched closely.

  On/Off Live Input.
Posted by: joesh - 07-19-2024, 06:29 PM - Forum: Feature requests - Replies (2)

Maybe it exists already, but it would be so useful to be able to turn on/off the live input without going into the setup screen.

in my case, I find it fun to use the live input to improvise a melody, or transpose, etc. But as soon as you want to stop the live input you have t leave the screen(s), and go to the setup screens, which is sort of clumsy. Maybe someone knows something I don't?

Thanks in advance.

Using Nerdseq to control Microfreak via MIDI
Posted by: kilgore - 07-17-2024, 06:38 AM - Forum: General Questions - Replies (3)

Hey there!
I'm considering getting a Microfreak to supplement my Eurorack system. My Nerdseq always controls almost everything in the system, and I'm wondering if it would be possible for the Nerdseq to control a Microfreak via MIDI using the TRS-A Midi Expander? Could I use the Nerdseq to sequence the Microfreak in this way? Perhaps even have it play chords through MIDI? Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks!
